I started collecting coins as a child!

A lifelong hobby of coin collecting!

When I was just a little boy, my Grandfather lived in California and owned an antiques shop. For my birthdays and any special holidays my grandfather would send me a little leather pouch with draw strings and inside it would be full of unusual coins! Some of these coins were very valuable! My mother gave me a little keepsake box to keep all my coins in! It didn't take long to fill up that box! I have been hooked on collecting things every since! I have collected football cards, baseball cards, coins, and probably the strangest thing was Wheaties Cereal boxes with sports figures on them!
Collecting is a fun and very interesting hobby! What do you collect? Leave a message in my guestbook and tell us all what you collect!

This is a great little book for young coin collectors, especially those who are just getting started. It has very sturdy thick "pages" to hold your special coins. It has a place for all 50 statehood quarters, a place for your birth year coins and a place for special coins, like the Indian head cent, the Buffalo nickel, the Mercury dime, the Liberty standing quarter, the Peace dollar and more. It also gives a lot of interesting information about coins like how coins are made, the parts of a U.S. coin, how to grade coins, minting mistakes, fascinating coin facts and even more. My 7 year old daughter has just become interested in coin collecting and this is the first book we bought for her (for Christmas). I think it's going to be a great way to encourage her in her new hobby. I really can't think of anything bad to say about the book. I would buy it again and I would definitely recommend it. I just wish he'd write a book like this on international coins!

We started an allowance for our almost 5 year old son and we were having a difficult time teaching him about saving. This book was the perfect tool! Now, instead of wanting to run out and spend the few coins he earns each week, he's excited about saving them up. And at the same time learning some math and money counting skills. I'll be purchasing this for several nieces and nephews as well.

Four Reasons Coin Collecting For Kids Is Cool

Coin Collecting For Kids Is Cool

Four Reasons Coin Collecting For Kids Is Cool

Coin collecting for kids? You bet! Coin collecting for kids is a great hobby - it's fun, it's a great way to learn about interesting things from the past, and you get to show off your collection to your buddies. Here are four reasons why coin collecting for kids is way cool:

1. You get to be creative when you collect coins. Choose what you collect, think about how you're going to find it, and display it however you want.

2. Coin collecting tells a story about when you got the object and how. The coins also tell a story about where it came from and who used it at the time.

3. It's not a drag to learn about things. When you get involved with coin collecting you learn about the coin's history, the value of the coin, and what the coin is made of - but it's much more fun than just reading a textbook.

4. You have an exciting hobby you can share with other people. When you collect coins, you can talk about your pieces with your buddies and other people who are interested in the same thing.

Why Collect Coins?

There are many excellent reasons why you might want to collect coins. For starters, they tell unique stories. A coin's design, mint mark, condition and composition can offer a glimpse into history and a better understanding of the past.

Some people collect coins in the hope that they will appreciate in value. Some coins have intrinsic bullion value (such as silver, gold and platinum coins). Others become valuable because they are rare.

I'm not a coin collector although there are some in my family, but I had someone give me a small collection of error bills once. I still have them. Sound like a fun thing to do!
