Cool US Coins to Collect and Own
Collecting U.S. coins enables anyone to look into our county's rich heritage. The hobby of coin collecting is open to anyone of any age from all walks of life. My interest in collecting coins began when I was a kid and is still just as strong almost fifty years later. The United States mint in it's history has produced some of the most fascinating and beautiful coins in the world.
My coin collecting hobby began just by checking my pocket change. You would be surprised at how many rare and key date U.S. coins are still being circulated today. Over the past few year I have found a Indian head nickel in brilliant uncirculated condition (coins issued by the mint that were never placed in general circulation), a silver Mercury head dime, older wheat cents and dozens of United States silver coins issued prior to 1964. Another excellent source for purchasing rare United States coins is using online coin auctions.
Featured United States coins in this lens are Morgan silver dollars, U.S. silver Peace dollars, Walking Liberty Halves and the 1909-s VDB Lincoln Head cent.

Coin Prices and Coin Values
Finding out how much your coin is worth is determined by a number of factors. Just because a coin is old or has a low mintage does not mean that the coin is valuable. Your coins value is actually based on what someone is actually willing to pay for your coin. A old coin with a low mintage in poor condition may only be worth a couple of dollars and the same coin in an excellent condition grade may be worth thousands. What coins are worth is determined by scarcity, condition and demand. The easiest way to determine what your coins are worth is by checking with online coin dealers and coin auctions to see which coins in given condition grades are currently selling for. Morgan Silver Dollars 1878-1921
These beautiful U.S. silver dollar coins designed by George T. Morgan, are one of the most popular United States coins among coin collectors and investors. Key date coins for the Morgan Dollar coins include 1883-S, 1884-S, 1892-S, 1893-S, 1894-P, 1895-P, 1895-O, 1895-S, 1896-S, 1899-P, 1901-P, 1903-O, 1903-S and the 1904-S.
U.S. Silver Peace Dollars 1921-1935
The U.S. Silver Peace Dollars are the last of the large silver dollar coins to be minted containing 90 percent silver for general circulation among the public. For collectors to own a complete set of these beautiful silver dollar coins is relatively inexpensive compared to the Morgan Silver dollar series. It only takes only twenty four coins to build a complete set containing all date and mint mark combinations .
1909-S V.D.B. Lincoln Penny
Designed by Victor David Brenner the Lincoln cent coins were one of the first U.S. coins to feature a real person on the obverse of the coin. When these coins were first issued in 1909, the designers initials "V.D.B." were quite prominently featured on the reverse side of the coins that were minted in Philadelphia and San Francisco. This caused public controversy by people who believed that the coins designer initials were too prominent and self serving. The initials were removed in the early part of the first year of the coins minting creating a rare version of the coin.
Walking Liberty Half Dollar Coins (1916-1947)
The front of the Walking Liberty half dollar coin is considered by many to be one of the best designed silver coins ever produced by the U.S. mint and the design was used for the current day American Silver Eagle bullion coins. These silver half dollar coins were designed by Adolph A. Weinman and his initials, "AAW", are located on the reverse side of the coin under the eagle's wing feathers. Key date coins in the Walking Liberty half dollar coin series include the 1916-P, 1916-S, 1921-P, 1921-D, and the 1938-D.
