Collecting buttons

Come on. We all have gone through Mom's button box sometime in our life. And now, some of us collect buttons. No, not the pin on type. The kind that we sew onto our clothing. Maybe you have a few pretty ones stashed away and are wondering if they are worth hanging onto. Or maybe you have more than a few and wonder what they might be worth, if anything.

Join a Button Club, perhaps the National Button Society

Yes, there are button clubs out there. Every state has several. No matter what state you are in, you can probably find one near you. (Except for me. I live in the UP of Michigan. The closest is 2 hours away.)
But I'm still interested in buttons and yes, I do have a nice collection, at least I think it's nice. Let's not talk about me.... If you have an interest in old buttons and want to find out more, look up the many button sites that are on the internet.

Link to the National Button Society

If you want to learn about your buttons or buttons that you don't have yet, check out this link. They have all kinds of info there for you.

Lots of friendship, learning and information about buttons

Membership in NBS is $35 per year. With membership you will receive the NBS publication, the National Button Society Bulletin, published five times a year. These bulletins contain articles as well as new research and information, in addition to announcements of future shows and meetings. There is also an NBS Classification Booklet that is published annually and sent with the February bulletin. This invaluable booklet will help you to organize and to classify your buttons. Many states have local clubs and societies which you may join. Many State Societies also publish their own Bulletin.

Holiday button cards - Exciting

If you want to give a small gift to a crafter, try this card project. Vintage buttons are attached to the card with pipe cleaners, so the recipient can easily take them off for use in another crafty project.

I'm afraid my button box is not nearly much fun as yours must be! But I do have some old button that came from my grandmothers button box. I never really thought about collecting them - might be fun! Thanks for the great Lens

My mom collected buttons, too. Not for sewing but just as collector's item. She used to trade with other people.
