Receiving Calls from a Collection Agency is not the end of the world..

Making Collection Agencies hang up on you is easy.  No matter how they approach you if they are calling you it is a nuisance.  While I would never pay a collection agency and may even make them pay me for their violation of collection agency laws.  If you are not experienced in handling calls from debt collectors you need to stay off the phone with them.

One of the things that you can do that will usually get a collector to hang up on you before the can start berating you over the phone is to tell them that all calls that you have concerning important financial matters are recorded.

If you just use this simple line "Because I need this conversation on record, before we start discussing the matter that you called me about I need to hook up my recorder to my phone.  Please hold on for one second."  Then just set the phone down for a minute and come back and say.  "Mr/Ms Collection Agent this call is now being recorded.  To make sure I have your permission please give your full legal name with a statement that it is ok that I record this call.  Also since I know that most collection agents do not use their real name for obvious reasons I also need your employee ID number and need for your manager to verify that the number you give is correct".

I can assure you that if you do this they will hang up on you 98% of the time.  On a more serious note though keep reading if you want to learn about how to strike back and make a collection agency stop calling you.

A simple inexpensive way to get peace in your home

works on telemarketers too...

Most collection agencies and telemarketers use predictive dialers. Without going into a full explanation they basically call you with an automated machine and when you answer they connect you with phone drone.

What phone zappers do is trick their system to think that they have reached a disconnected number when you answer. It send a pulse back through the phone line to their machine and disconnects the call. It may even remove your number from their database.

This works for a collection agency or telemarketer!!

Ok you don't have to lie to them...

You don't have to be telling a lie to a collection agency when you are telling them you are recording the call. The best way to get proof that they are being abusive in their collection activities is to really record them.

You may have to have their permission in some states and in some states you do not need their permission. Ill provide more on that latter!!

I have already filed bankruptcy because of Midland Finance/PNC Bank but they are now trying to say I paid them since then, which is a total lie! I don't feel they need to harrass me because they tried to put me and my family on the "street" the first of Janury whatever year (at least 3 years ago) and now they are trying to collect again!! I can't get their direct address or phone number from the collection agency. Any ideas as to how I can find their contact info?

I have been in the collections industry for well over 15 years and it amazes me that people still take this type of bad advice. Do some checking into Bud Hibbs and others like him. They give you a lot of bad advice and incorrect information. While I will admit there are some bad apples in the industry, most bill collectors are simply doing their job. Collecting money that is owed to their client(s).

They (Bud and his ilk) basically try and convince you that you don't have to pay your bills and give you advice on how to try and get out of it. Besides being legally way off base, that is simply morally wrong. Pay it. The best way to keep a collection agency from calling you is to pay your bills on time. If you are behind, work out arrangements to handle the bill in a responsible manner. Most collectors will work with you if you don't get beligerent and try and make good on your debts.

I can't tell you how many people I have had sued because they listened to advice like this.
