NCAA College Football Michigan Wolverines Report
With Dana Ward from http://gamblerstelevision.com Quarterback situation in bad shape for Michigan but Coach Rodriguez provides upside for the program. Hello College Football fans this is Dana Ward with Gamblers Televisions college football report. When Rich Rodriguez took over as head coach of Michigan he inherited a team with starting quarterback Chad Henne leaving for the NFL and his backup Ryan Mallet transferring to Arkansas. Leading Michigan in the spring at quarterback is a red shirt freshman, a transfer and a walk on in spring practice. Rodriguez is installing his spread offense at Michigan that he was successful with while at West Virginia. It may take some time for the Wolverines to pick up this new offense and Rodriguez' trio of quarterbacks have looked bad in the spring. Fortunately Michigan will have true freshman Justin Feagin enter school this fall and may start as a true freshman at quarterback if he can learn the system fast enough during summer practice. Michigan's quarterback situation is that bad that it's starter may still be in high school as we broadcast in mid April. Feagin in his senior year in high school ran for 1300 yards and threw for 1400 and is a perfect fit for Rodriguez' system. It may be too much to ask of a true freshman to start at quarterback under a spread attack against the big physical defenses in the Big 10 conference. For this reason Michigan may struggle in conference. Michigan's defense will have to carry the team this year and the good news is that the unit reported to camp with weight loss and the players reportedly had better stamina this spring as a result of it. There has been some attrition already as 310lb junior starting offensive linemen Justin Boren quit the team because he couldn't handle the demands of running to the line of scrimmage once leaving the huddle. Momma's boys need not apply to Michigan with Rich Rodriguez at the helm. There is reason for optimism for Wolverine fans as they have a Top 10 recruiting class coming in this season but any national title run may have to wait a season or two. Michigan starts the season with a home game August 30th against Utah from the Mountain West. Oh, and Appalachian St is not on the schedule this year. Oddsmakers have posted Michigan as a 6-1 favorite to win the BCS National Championship Game.
