- I have been a college student for 4 years trying to earning a degree in biological science and I feel I have so much to contribute to this site. So the first two years of college I had a scholarship to help me get through school, yet, when that ran out I felt I found myself in a bind for cash with little time for a job. Here are some tips I have found that have helped me with my financial situation.
The first thing I go for is the Sunday paper. As a college student you need to eat and eating well while trying to avoiding the ramen breakfast, lunch and dinner feast. So I decided to dedicate my Sundays to clipping coupons from the Sunday paper. You may think, what could I possibly find in the Sunday paper that will help me out. Well as a female there are tons of make-up coupons that have kept me looking like the hot college student I am. These coupons range from hair dye to eye shadow and sometimes when the deal is right I can get most of my products for free. The second thing I look for in the coupons is hygiene. From toothpaste to shampoo there are plenty of coupons that have $2 dollars off one product or by one product and get a lotion for free. These came in handy once I realized that buying hygiene products was a large chunk of my change.
As for the food section there is so much to find. And I am talking about the brand name products that we all want to buy instead of the knock off products like krogger and best value products. When I go shopping for food I find that each coupon is worth around a dollar off my bill and when you have 10 coupons for the name brand good stuff that could make a big difference when your trying to save money for booze. Speaking of booze, in the Sunday paper there is plenty of coupons for hard alcohol that has saved me on my very dry campus. With several coupons for a bottle of vodka I can get bottles for $5 that really help take the edge off test days.
Sundays papers generally cost $2.00 but if you go to a dollar store you could by two Sunday papers for $2.00 making your coupons double in size. Remember double the coupons, double the savings. Here are some coupon sites that could really help when your pinching pennies:

Since I really don't have much time for an eight hour job with the studying and lab work, I needed to find another income that would pay from all the college responsibilities that I can not handle, like oil changes, textbook costs, ect. With my college raising its' tuition once more I had to decide whether to sink or swim. So I found this flyer at school for posting links on the internet that has really paid off and allowed me to have some extra cash in the bank account. It is no get rich quick scam like some people have pushed my way but when I am online watching reruns of Dexter and True Blood I find this simple posting links side job help me out. This company gives you a mentor that guides you with videos and quick email responses. I recently talked to my mentor and he was talking about the company expanding with the new social networking websites popping up and what not. If you put in your area code it will tell you whether or not a spot is open or not. The first time I checked it there my area was full, but then a week later I checked back because the bank account got too low and there was three openings and I was so excited. I felt so relieved at the opportunity because I was turning in change from under my car seat. Now I am able to maintain on average $200.00 in my back account and my credit card company is NOT calling me while I am in class. Another saving grace has been craigslist! Sometimes craigslist list stuff for free that people just want to get rid of. My boyfriend is the thrifty type and doesn't mind looking on craigslist for free appliances that he can take to a scrap metal shop. Last time he did this he got 32 pounds of copper for $81.00. Not bad when you need some extra cash for Friday night.
I hope some of my tips have helped you like they have helped me. As a college student I think being resourceful is one of those lessons that you have to learn before diving head first into the real world.
