The Ski Train

Route starts in Denver

When it started in 1940, the purpose of the Ski Train was to take skiers up in the mountains to Winter Park. Skiers can still take the train to Winter Park today. The train starts at Union Station, in Downtown Denver.

The California Zephyr

Route starts in 6 different Colorado locations, including Denver.

This railroad covers the 2,500 miles between San Francisco and Chicago. A small portion of the railroad is now operated by Amtrak and makes 6 stops throughout the state.

Cumbres and Toltec

Route starts in Antonito

The Cumbres and Toltec covers 64 miles and stops in Chama New Mexico, allowing you to see the scenery of two states in one day!

Rio Grande

This train runs along the San Isabel Forest, and offers incredible views of the Sangre De Cristo Mountain range.

Georgetown Loop

Route starts in Georgetown

You will ride through pretty mountain views near Georgetown. More information about Georgetown and the Loop railroad here You will have the option of touring the Lebanon Mine along the way.

How Long? The ride lasts about an hour and 15 minutes. If you take the optional mine tour, it is an additional hour and 15 minutes just for the tour.

Pikes Peak Cog Railway

Route starts in Manitou Springs

Pikes Peak railway is the world's highest cog railway. You can read more about the Pikes Peak Cog Railway here

How Long? About 3 hours round trip. Once you reach the top, you only have half an hour at the summit before you have to go down again.

Durango Silverton Railroad

Route starts in Durango

You will travel in an old fashioned steam train through spectacular scenery along the Animas River. The Animas has its source high in the San Juan Mountains.

How Long? The ride is approximately 3 1/2 hours.

Royal Gorge

Route starts from Canon City

Take a spectacular ride through beautiful scenery in Royal Gorge Canyon.

Besides riding the train, you can see Royal Gorge Bridge, which is the highest suspension bridge in the world. If you're truly adventurous, take the Sky Coaster ride, which swings over the canyon. There are great views and photography opportunities!

How Long? The ride is about 2 hours round trip, 3 hours if you are riding a dinner train.
