History Behind Motorcycles
Do you know where and who started the motorcyle?
The first motorcycle was invented by Sylvester Howard Roper an American in 1867. It was a two cylinder, steam engine motorcycle that was powered by coal. Then came the first gas-engine motorcycle in 1885 (picture to the right). This pre-assessor to the modern motorcycle was made from a "Four-Stroke Internal-Combustion Engine" attached to a wooden bicycle frame and was named "Otto Cycle Engine" by German inventor Gottlieb Daimler. In 1903 the first Harley-Davidson Motorcycle was built in a Milwaukee barn. It was the first bike produced with a one cylinder engine made for racing and called the Indian. After that the company started to produce more models and became what it is today.
History Behind Motocross
The originally name for Motocross was called scrambling when first started in the UK. The modern name resulted of the combination from the words "Motorcycle" and "Cross Country", and its abbreviation is known as MX. The first known scramble took place at Camberley, Surrey in 1924. Then in the 1930's the sport evolved throughout Europe with smaller tracks which added laps and jump obstacles were created. The Sport was huge in Britain where many teams competed against each one another. This is where the off road bikes and street bikes started to differ from each other. After WWII the sport started to become widely international, including bike manufacturing. Today there are many different races, leagues and championship held throughout the world. History Behind Personal Watercarfts

The Jet Ski was the first commercially successful standup Personal Watercraft. The peek of the PWC sales was in 1995 and since has leveled off. Fort Collins MotorSports Other Resources
