Rainbow - The Color of Happiness!
I absolutely love rainbows. There is just something about a rainbow that makes me feel happy and peaceful. As a natural wonder that requires just the right conditions to occur, it is something I can never take for granted. Every time we have a sunshower I rush outside with my camera hoping to get the chance to snap a few pictures of a colorful rainbow. It doesn't even have to be a true rainbow in the sky to enchant me. Anything that comprises the full spectrum of colors catches my eye. Tie dye shirts, jewelry, and art using all the colors of the rainbows draw me in like a moth to the flame. Is it any wonder I was so enamored of Rainbow Brite
when I was a child?
Whenever I'm asked what my favorite color is, I can never choose just one. Choosing just one means I might have a different favorite every day. And with color, the whole is greater than the sum of its parts! Each color may be pleasant on its own, but when you put them all together, they become something really special. So I prefer to say that my favorite color is RAINBOW!

Rainbow Spectrum in Art
As an art lover and a former college art major, I enjoy all types of art. But I have a special fondness for artists who use bright vivid colors in their artworks, especially when they use them all at once! I like to call these works "Rainbow Art". Stained glass and mosaic arts are excellent for allowing an artist to incorporate a multitude of colors. Stained glass is particularly nice since sunlight shining through the glass adds a brilliance that is hard to match. I'm always on the lookout for more colorful rainbow art. Do you have any favorites? Tell me about them!Marcia Joffe-Bouska is an artist I really admire. I'm drawn to both the media she chooses to work in and the colors she uses in her artworks. Her work Garden Icon (below) is a favorite of mine.
There are also several metal artists who use abraded aluminum and paint to make colorful works of metal art. The brightness of the aluminum really complements the rainbow colors in these works. I would love the chance to be able to create some of this rainbow metal art myself! Below is an example of this type of work, by artist Alex Kovacs.
In the art of the Hawaiian petroglyphs, the ancient stone carvings of the Hawaiian Islands, the Rainbow Man petroglyph was interpreted to be a respresentation of a chief or god - certainly someone of high importance. The petroglyph shows a man with a rainbow arcing over his shoulders. The rainbow was a symbol of the chiefs and the gods in Hawaiian culture. The bronze sculpture pictured below shows the design of a typical Rainbow Man petroglyph.

- I too love rainbows. It all started in high school when I was in a service club and my nickname was...you guessed it Rainbow. Since then, I've never been able to get enough of them. Thanks for the lens, and be blessed.
