How To Wear Pink - Fall Trends

From laser cut lace to poppy floral mash-up, the new wave of blush-hued designs has far more edge than a debutante's dress. To keep from going too girly, choose pieces that are refined, not froufrou. Cut the sugar factor with accessories that don't always play nice.

Benjamin Moore 2011 Color fo the Year: Vintage Wine

Benjamin Moore's color designers are forecasting vintage wine as Envision Color 2011's Color of the Year.

First seen on the fashion runways of New York, Paris, and Milan, this rich hue with a deep brown base and a hint of smoky violet is just as magnificent in the home.

As an undertone in many of the latest wood finishes, leathers, and other textiles, vintage wine, and its lighter variations, will make a great paint color pick for many applications over the coming years.

Pantone Autumn/Winter 2011/2012 Color Trends Webinar

Tuesday, November 30 at 12 noon EST SIGN UP NOW!

Pantone webinar to talk about color trends for 2011 and 2012With consumer buying patterns in flux, businesses are looking for keys to jump start sales and improve profitability. Critical to making that happen is understanding the kinds of products consumers will be looking for and then getting these products to market as fast and as efficiently as possible. As color is often the catalyst that sparks the sale, retailers today should not overlook the strategic use of color in their product selections and must be mindful of creating visual excitement in their stores.

On Tuesday, November 30 at 12 noon EST, Pantone will hold a live webinar to address these issues and discuss the color trends for Autumn/Winter 2011/2012. This is a one-hour online event at no charge.

Log on to hear Laurie Pressman, Vice President of Fashion, Home & Interiors, guide you through the key color and style trends you need to know.

With production increasingly taking place in geographies remote from the site of product design, Brooks Tippett will explain the importance of using a technically sound color system in order to easily and efficiently turn these new emerging trends into a colorful reality and get your products to market faster.

The webinar will be illustrated with the latest in color trend and color management information from Pantone, the industry's foremost authority on all things color.

Heimtextil Fashion Trends for 2011-2012

Heimtextil Fashion Trends for 2011-2012Sobriety - a return to the essential and traditional
The Sobriety trend theme shows where short-lived, seasonal trends end and consistent value begins. The background to this change in consumer behaviour is that, in recent years, consumers have built on an ethical self-image, concrete quality and service demands, which they want to maintain, even in difficult financial times. Consumer behaviour may have changed but standards have not.

The new consumer landscape is characterised by quality, longevity, sustainability and significance. In this context, a new generation of designers are researching forgotten skills and traditional craftsmanship is making a comeback. This goes hand in hand with a growing desire on the part of consumers to find out more about manufacturing and manufacturers. More on this style and color trend for 2011-2012

Mix Mash combines the high-tech with craftsmanship, new with old
Mix and match is what's happening. Turning something old into something new, combining colours and patterns with abandon. Mix Mash clearly shows how tradition is being turned on its head and stylised ethnic influences from all over the world meet with novel patterns, prints and fabrics.

But Mix Mash also stands for a combination of global know-how and local production techniques. The emotional strength and tradition of craftsmanship, coupled with innovation and efficient functionality, symbolise the successful juxtapositioning of high-tech and craftsmanship. More on this style and color trend for 2011-2012

Consumer society has changed - Utility invites you use it.
The global financial crisis, natural catastrophes, a surfeit of products and information are causing people to pause to think about and reflect on their current lifestyle. Nowadays, a decisive factor in purchasing decisions is the consideration about what is really important. Consumers are sick of design for design's sake, Utility stands for simplicity, accessibility and an invitation to use.

Products marketed aggressively in glossy brochures are being replaced by the untreated and fundamental. Designed for everyday use, Utility products give greater meaning to their relationship with the user and suggest a longer lifespan. The pure, modest and unadorned are celebrated. More on this style and color trend for 2011-2012

Wilderness - back to where we came from
The world we live in is high-tech and consumption-controlled, confidence in governments, economic structure and energy supplies has been shattered. So consumers are striving for more self-reliance and want to achieve an ultra-sustainable lifestyle. In order to achieve this, some are breaking free of their normal way of life in a radical way and adopting the Wilderness lifestyle, which means being at one with nature.

A new interest in crafts from the past, including milling and wicker-weaving are evolving. People are looking for distinctive individualistic features marked by imperfection not perfection. A new organic look is being created, which nature captures in all its forms, characteristics and materials. More on this style and color trend for 2011-2012

APLF Colour & Material Trends - Fall-Winter 2010/11

APLF COLOUR & MATERIAL TRENDS - FALL-WINTER 2010/11 Emotions and SensationsA context ideal for darling, surprise styles.

Somewhere between EMOTIONS and SENSATIONS, the coming season will be a time of optimistic fashion, expressed through four themes full of contrasts and paradoxes:

EMOTION-IMPULSE: feel!

SENSATION-LUXURY: touch!

EMOTION-PERFORMANCE: move!

SENSATION-GLAMOUR: enjoy!

The contradictions of this century disorient us: things are changing and threaten to upset the way we live. The spirit of fashion for Fall-Winter 2010/2011 will express this evolution in two simultaneous way:

1. A demand for quality, authenticity, safe values, protection and alternative energies.
2. A need for personalization and individual freedom, which will bounce off restraints and radiate optimism.

These two currents will guide our tastes and desires, leading to a fresh burst of creativity, innovation and non conformism.

Lenzing Color Trends / Spring/Summer 2011

Lenzing Color Trends / Spring/Summer 2011The designer's role will be still more complex, being a part of the effort of "greening" the fashion world.
The task is, above all, to design products in first-class materials and production with aesthetic qualities in order to create lasting emotional and functional relationship between the object and the user.

"Slow fashion" will develop from being a diffuse buzzword to signifying quality in production and product. E.g. working to turn artisan crafts into fashion - and into profit for the locals - and to producing long lasting clothing.

Different materials are only blended for performance purposes, special effects etc, and preferably components that are to be taken care of and disposed of in the same way. On one hand "loom state" fabrics and natural color cottons awaken significant interest, on the other finishing and refinements are still developed and sophisticated. Feel good luxury sense is essential for our choices.
Design for delight!

Pantone Must-Have Colors for 2011

Everything Old Is New and Improved

Pantone Color Trends Must-Have Colours for 2011Wondering which hues for shoes will be must-haves for consumers next fall?

According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute and the head of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, buyers may want to look to the past, present and future to get a sense of coming color trends. "The big picture theme is a Mosaic of Color and Style," she says. "This reflects cultural, universal time frames and seemingly disconnected elements. Though new technologies continue to reinvent the future, we may notice some things have a vaguely nostalgic feeling."

The interest in making everything old new again stems from, yes, the current economy. "Since people are thinking about the economy, that's telling us some of the styling of the past isn't discarded, but instead brought back in a new way. What's important today is to think in terms of practicality. People are going to ask themselves, gee, I already have six pairs of black shoes, so why do I need another pair? Retailers are going to want to give them something new, and this is where color plays an important role. For example, maybe a consumer is drawn to a purple car, but when they get to the show room they decide to go with the black version. But you need to have that purple car to get their attention."...read more

Shaw Carpet Color Trends for 2011

Shaw Carpet Color Trends for 2011POMPADOR ROSE
Not quite mauve, this color direction is the "cheek's blush" transition from the pink family. "Pompador Rose" is drawn from both the English Country and Beijing's Forbidden City as inspiration. Slightly grayed, this "new mauve" has its roots in english cabbage rose chintz, 40's hollywood glamour and yet looking ahead with a modern edge.

"SEVILLE" Red
If you're dreaming of adding an element of drama and excitement to your life, then a fiery hot-house red might be just what you need. Nothing says "drama" more than a classic red roadster, a tube of red lipstick, and "oila" you have a red carpet entrance. Velvet saxonies are ideal for dramatic red carpet and work remarkably well with little or a lot of color within the same space.

"SECRET GARDEN" Green
Oftentimes we are drawn to a particular color for a particular reason. In other words, one of my favorite colors is green, any shade of green. Green is linked to so many positives in the color psychology world, environmental, sustainable, nature, down-to-earth and freshness.

"TITANIUM" Gray
Sleek and modern, gray is the signature color of metropolitan living at its best.

"LUCERNE" Blue
Inspired by the swiss lakes region as well as runway fashion, inky indigo blues, deep-water blues and pin-striped navy blue menswear are safe and familiar. Paired with surprising color combinations can make blue either funky or serioius. Blue with gray is reliable while blue with canary yellow or lemongrass is edgy.
