Chakras and Colours

Each chakra has a specific colour associated with it. Imbalance in a particular chakra can lead to both emotional and physical problems. Colour therapy can help restore balance to each chakra and correct the problem. It is also useful for maintaining balance.

The Power of Yellow

Associated with the Navel Chakra

Yellow symbolises happiness , personal power, self belief and confidence. Whenever you feel you are lacking any of these qualities in your life try to introduce some yellow to get things back on track. Eat yellow fruits and vegetables, carry a crystal such as yellow calcite, get out in the sunshine or even plant a few yellow flowers in your garden. Yellow is also connected to your solar plexus, whenever someone else's behaviour is making you unhappy or you feel you need a boost just place the palm of your hand over your solar plexus and focus on something yellow. Placing yellow calcite on your solar plexus during meditation also helps lift your mood.

The Power of Red

Associated With the Root Chakra

Red symbolizes motivation, strength, boldness, passion and the life force. It is a grounding and stabilizing colour and is particularly useful in times of upheaval, insecurity or uncertainty.

As with the other colours red can be introduced into your life through red fruits and vegetables, flowers and red crystals such as carnelian and red jasper. It is also useful to carry something red with you whenever you lack motivation or energy, even keeping small scrap of red fabric in your purse or carrying a red crystal. If you know you've a tough day ahead try placing something red where you will see it on waking up.

The Power of Violet

Associated with the Crown Chakra

Violet symbolizes wisdom and intuition and is helpful when you feel uncertain. Violet is connected to your brow. Placing amethyst on the centre of your brow bone during meditation will strengthen your self-belief and help you trust your own judgement. Introducing more violet into your life is easy. If you don't fancy re-painting your house or splashing out on a new outfit, you can carry a piece of amethyst, wear jewellery containing amethyst, eat purple grapes, aubergines and other violet/purple fruits, vegetables and juices. Purple or violet flowers are another excellent method of using this colour in your daily life.

The Power of Orange

Associated with the Spleen Chakra

Orange is in common with red and yellow, of which it is a mixture, an attractive magnetic colour and will help you feel energised and secure when you need to. It is a good idea to incorporate orange into your life in some way, through clothing, jewellery, décor, crystals, candles and food. A great colour for healing as well as solving problems round the home. It is wise to have something orange to hand at all times.

The Power of Blue

Associated with the Throat Chakra

Blue symbolises honesty, serenity and harmony and is an effective way to bring calm when you need it. It is also a useful colour to use in conjunction with red to prevent you becoming overstimulated by too much red energy. Blue is a good colour to have where you sleep as it's relaxing effects help avoid insomnia. Introduce elements of blue through candles, crystals, clothing and foods such as blueberries. A word of warning too much blue can leave you lethargic and depressed -hence the expression feeling blue.

The Power of Indigo

Associated with the Third Eye Chakra

Indigo can help us connect effectively with our unconscious. It is associated with intuition, imagination and understanding. It's a great colour to use when faced with a situation or problem that you do not comprehend and cannot seem to resolve. Many people report having more frequent, vivid and meaningful dreams when working with indigo.

The Power of Green

Associated with the Heart Chakra
