Come Together Song Lyrics
The song was originally created in part because of Timothy Leary's decision to run for Governor of California in 1969. He needed a campaign song and requested that John Lennon write one for him. Because of Leary's arrest on drug charges, his campaign came to a screeching halt, but Come Together was already written. Lennon added some nonsense lyrics to the mix, while Paul McCartney suggested slowing down the melody and adding the bass line.
Upon its release, it was one of several Beatles' tracks that was banned by the BBC, because of its possible references to drug use and the mention of Coca-Cola, seen as an advertisement of the soft drink.
Over the years however, the track has been covered by numerous artists, most notably by Aerosmith who recorded it for the soundtrack of the movie version of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. More recently, American Idol contestant Crystal Bowersox performed the song on the Top 9 edition of the 2010 season of American Idol.

Come Together: The Lyrics
Here come old flattop he come grooving up slowly
He got joo-joo eyeball he one holy roller
He got hair down to his knee
Got to be a joker he just do what he please
He wear no shoeshine he got toe-jam football
He got monkey finger he shoot Coca-Cola
He say "I know you, you know me"
One thing I can tell you is you got to be free
Come together right now over me
He bag production he got walrus gumboot
He got ono sideboard he one spinal cracker
He got feet down below his knee
Hold you in his arms, yeah, you can feel his disease
Come together right now over me
He roller-coaster he got early warning
He got muddy water he one mojo filter
He say "one and one and one is three"
Got to be good-looking 'cause he's so hard to see
Come together right now over me

From the first cut, Come Together, to the last, Her Majesty, this is filled with songs, by turn, that are quirky, musical, emotional, amusing. . . . This is a classic "late Beatles" album, even as the group was falling to pieces. There is a maturity to this work that belies their relative youth.
