Good point. I'm sure the recipe works just fine with any type of vegetable oil, so I corrected it to say that.
  • Auntiekatkat Feb 29, 2012 @ 9:20 pm | delete
There must be something seriously wrong me, but I would rather eat chick peas.

  • highpotassiumfoods Aug 4, 2011 @ 6:31 pm | delete
You picked two terrific comfort foods that aid health. No question chocolate and cocoa are healthy additions to the diet when not too much is eaten. And chickpeas can be eaten as much as you want. Both these foods are high potassium foods, which help lower blood pressure and improve bone density. The link above goes to a table of nutrient values for chocolate and cocoa. The website also has a table of nutrient values for beans, including chickpeas, which you can find in the tags on the site.

Yes, chocolate is wonderful for making me feel happy. I didn't know that chick peas were good for making you happy. They aren't high on my list - I prefer green and yellow peas. Blessed by a Squid Angel.

  • pimbels May 5, 2011 @ 11:04 am | delete

  • Helene-Malmsio Apr 6, 2011 @ 11:13 am | delete
I've also heard that Brazil nuts are especially good for improving your moods and for balance. I love them, so happily eat that comfort food whenever I can!
  • spirituality Apr 6, 2011 @ 1:14 pm | delete
Reading up on brazil nuts it seems that eaten in small quantities they're alright and do help balancing the diet. However, given the nutrients in there, it seems moderation is key. No more than one a day, or something.

  • happynutritionist Feb 10, 2011 @ 1:26 pm | delete
It is about time for my daily afternoon treat...a small piece of dark chocolate! So it was fun to find this page while "flying" about with "diet and nutrition" category "SquidAngel" wings. I do love chick peas too! Blessed and added to http://www.squidoo.com/nutrition-angel
  • Cheryl57 Jan 25, 2011 @ 10:11 am | delete
Thank you for this informative lense, I had no idea chickpeas were so healthy.
  • mayapearl Jan 11, 2011 @ 4:34 am | delete
I love dark chocolate and the darker the better. I find that a small amount takes care of any craving. I also love hummous, i make it with tahini instead of yoghurt, both are great!
  • Serenia Jan 6, 2011 @ 11:12 am | delete
I love chickpeas in falafels. I am seriously thinking about switching from milk chocolate to dark chocolate - to satiate my chocolate addiction and still eat healthy. Thanks.
  • GreenTeaTime Jan 1, 2011 @ 1:40 pm | delete

  • KeithThompson Nov 27, 2010 @ 10:36 pm | delete
While trying to craft the best gout diet I can I get conflicting views on chocolate. Some say its good for gout, others says it's just another simple sugar to be avoided. What's your take?
  • spirituality Nov 28, 2010 @ 1:08 am | delete
I know nothing about gout. However, most chocolates do contain a LOT of sugar. Any medicinal use would have to be black, unsweetened chocolate.
  • mysticmama Nov 17, 2010 @ 12:05 am | delete
Not a fan of the chickpeas or hummus, but I'll roll with the chocolate & herbal teas! :)
  • Jhangora Nov 15, 2010 @ 5:16 pm | delete
Your Lens is very tasteful and informative. We can certainly add a lot to any Lens on Squidoo but I think you have done a great job.

Personally I find Chicken Soup very comforting. I hope it's healthy.
  • Pmona Nov 6, 2010 @ 10:36 pm | delete
If chocolate and chickpeas are healthy, then would chocolate covered chickpeas work? Hhmmm...somehow that doesn't sound very tasty, even to a chocoholic like me!

Love chocolate, but it is hard to do moderation!

Chickpeas are great, didn't know they made me happy. Humus is grand, in fact, I am going to go have some! But I also love the texture in salads.
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Oct 24, 2010 @ 4:17 pm | delete
My problem with chocolate is that I never can do it in moderation! But I have found these cocoa coating almonds that taste like eating Hersey bars, but with dark chocolate, which I usually don't like.

But I love chick peas, didn't know they made me happy, but humus is wonderful, and I like to eat them in salads, like the texture.
  • Gloriousconfusion Oct 14, 2010 @ 4:28 pm | delete
I love home-made houmous, and the way you can vary its flavour. I use tahini (ground sesame paste) and chili in mine - both very healthy additions'

    Lovely lens

This is one of my favorite lens. I really the recipes you have posted here and there is just something about the lens that "feels" good. I am going to feature it on my newest lens How to Use One Recipe for Biscuits and Flat Bread Thank you for your suggestion about adding Low-Sodium in the title-I did make that change. Last night I was exhausted after writing all day and just over looked that. Also thank you for your blessing, I really appreciate it, A LOT!

I think this is a very good lens! I have been looking for a good hummus recipe and the one you have listed sounds great! Another reason because I adore chocolate, yummy! I featured this lens on my new lens Nutritional Eating Habits I think it will make a great addition in there.
  • dc64 May 15, 2009 @ 1:07 pm | delete
Love chocolate, hate chick peas! I actually like unsweetened baking chocolate too. I'll buy the baking squares and eat them, and when I want a bit of sugar, I'll get the bittersweet ones. Yummy! Now don't get me wrong, I love Nestle and Dove's dark chocolate as well as peppermint patties. Heck, I just love chocolate. I can ramble on about it for hours...

You can't have vitamin K? Isn't that a health problem in itself?
  • poutine May 14, 2009 @ 3:48 pm | delete
Yes, chocolate makes me happy, but only if I east just
a little. More and I get in a bad mood.

As for chick peas, I love them, but they have vitamin K
which is a dilemma for me as I am on Coumadin for life.

Katinka -- the one food that makes me happiest -- I suspect you might guess -- is stuffed cabbage -- yep! I think it is a psychological comfort food because it evokes memories of grandma past -- as I see her in her Cleveland home making the rolls.
  • slcalvin May 9, 2009 @ 4:03 pm | delete
I love hummus, but didn't realize they can make you happy too. Thanks for the great lens
  • SparkleChi Mar 5, 2009 @ 7:26 pm | delete
I've never tried making hummus with yogurt! We usually use tahinni and lemon or cashew or almond butter. Chickpeas are a favorite here!
I use Valerian Root tea when I am feeling anxious or stressed... works for my kids too.
Raw, unheated honey can help raise your mood naturally. It is so full of nutrients that I feel good using it. Cooked honey does NOT offer these benefits.
The Chickpea and Spinach Tapas looks yummy... I think we will try it for lunch!

hi - I love your lens - the great thing about it is that you get a good warm feeling from reading it. One of my interests is healthy sugars and the most healthy sugar I've found to date is Trehalose - I've a recipe for Trehalose Almond Macaroons - absolutely delicious and good for you at the same time. I'm working on a recipe for Trehalose truffles but testing takes along time.

Actually, wine is NOT great for the heart. All research that has been done on this shows that even two glasses a day (and most wine drinkers drink more than that) is already bad for you. The evidence on one glass a day being good for the heart has been countered as well (which means the jury is still out). So for now I'm going with abstention.

Three members of my family do not eat beans and chick peas are an 'alien species' to us. I tried to expose my boys to all sorts of healthy foods when they were young...beans never were accepted and chick peas were something I never knew how to cook with. I have started slipping a few beans into our homemade soups...figured a few at first and then I can build to a few more...same thing applied in the switch to whole wheat pasta from regular pasta.

Thanks for reminding me to keep trying to slip these healthy items into our diet.
