Food Glorious Food
So, what is "comfort food"? Each person around the world has a different opinion as to what "comfort food" really is. For some it is mac and cheese for others it is a casserole, what it is really does not matter, because each and every one of us has a different recollection about what made us happy and safe as a child.
Foodies Beware
the food you are about to witness may give you hunger panges

My mother makes a better than average peanut butter cookie and a great rice crispy cheese cookie. But one of the things that I remember best as a comfort food is her dewberry cobbler. I would go out and tramp through the thorn vines looking for the ripe ones with an ice-cream pail until I had it nearly full, of course remembering to eat a few while I was doing it so as to assure their ripeness. I would bring it home and there we would wash them and she would make the cobbler; it was delicious with vanilla ice-cream.

My father has a few to his name too, making ice ream in the wooden churn on Fourth of July; creating the Thompson BBQ sauce; even the hamburgers we made every few weeks. I remember my father every time I step up to my grill and cook something; the recipes are simple and have been committed to memory but they are a comfort to me, and provide a simple continuity from childhood to adulthood.

This is what comfort food is to me, the question is what is it to you? Does the smell of Mac-n-Cheese bring fond memories, how about Chicken Noodle soup? Each of your comfort foods allows you to remember those fond memories of your past and to relate them to today and your hectic life, bringing comfort and joy.
What foods do you consider to be comfort foods?
and what is your story behind them?
I love food and the story behind that food. We all have foods that give us a sense of well being and I would like to know what they are and if you are willing to share your recipe for it. If you have lost the recipe, perhaps I or someone passing through will be able to help you find one that is similar to the one that was lost, and maybe help you to recreate it through your recollections of it.

Cookbooks to create your very own comfort food and memories to pass on
Celebrity Comfort food
Most of the people on TV are chefs and create wild foods that most people would never consider to be comfort foods, Bobby Flay, Guy Fietti, and even Michael Chiarello cook sophisticated foods for sophisticated tastes. While these foods are great they generally do not answer to that primal call for comfort. Emeril kicks it up a notch and creates upscale comfort food, while Rachel Ray creates meals from her childhood in thirty minute segments,... the list goes on and on with cooks and chefs trying to show you how to do what they do. Do they really do comfort food? In my heart I say no, even though some of the Items they make are close, they do not really instill a sense of comfort to me.There is one celebrity Chef/cook that could be crowned the Queen of comfort food and that would be Paula Dean. She justs does what she does best, cooks from the heart with southern charm. I have seldom seen anything created by her that was not steeped in family and the history of her life. Her creations are something any mother would make for her children, they have no pretentious beginning. She makes no attempt to cover up her southern roots, and every recipe I have ever seen her make is simple and delicious. Not that I would say that anything she makes is a healthy alternative, it tastes good though.
