Never been a great fan of Captain America - The first Avenger, myself, but some of the concepts and dramatical arcs really got me sometimes. Besides, some of the classical (and kind of naive) lets-kick-some-nazi-asses stories are the quintessential storyline from that age and make clear why the Cap is who he is and why became an inpirational icon for some generations.

By contrast, you can compare him with Nomad, his ex-sidekick once knew as Buck, that became more a cool-but-dangerous-urbanoid-edgy-anti-hero.

(Extra) Nomad, formerly know as Bucky

What with this Nomad guy?

Captain America is a white Paladin? Well, meet his darker shadow.

Fabian Nicieza (author) e and a pletora of illustrators.

Nomad was Captain America sidekick, but some psychological issues and some dissapointment with humanity turned him into a little more darker, but cool, anti-hero. In his initial dramatic arc you will find some more realistic and dark stories. Just for note, he once fought some drug smugglers between packs of cocaine, while holding a baby that he adopted (kind of) after her junkie mother - a prostitute - almost get an OD.

Pretty much contrast to the shinning captain above, isn't?

J. Michael Straczynski is the scripter and producer of a lot of cool TV series and it's fanatic for Comic books. He took an iconic character and gave him a much better dramatic dynamic. And fun, of course!

Conan

What with this Conan guy:

The character that is the quintessential fantasy warrior. Ask any RPG Geek!

Who did it:

A lot of illustrators, but the father of the cimerian warrior and who you have to gave credit for this is Robert E. Howard.

Warriors, witches, some violence, some discreet sexuality and an eerie mood in stories that kind of defined the rules and tone of almost all movies and books in the fantasy genere.

If this is not enough, what about that:

Before this movie with Jason Momoa, Arnold Schwarzenegger played Conan, way before being the Governator, with his famous accent and dramatic skills at... let me put this way: the highest peek.

Plain and simple: is much better than the movie. Althought the character Sinestro played by Mark Strong is pretty cool.

Nice lens! I'd actually be interested in your take too on how the movies varied from the comics, not having read all of those ones.
