I well remember sgt. Fury and his British commando sidekick Percy (I think), always beaning people with his bumbershoot. Thanks for the memories.
Ch. 6 of my Squidoo novel, Complicit Simplicity, alludes to hacker's comic books with the hero Knight Watchman. I hope someone will take a swing at it -- maybe even with a bumbershoot.

DC/Marvel Crossover Classics II
Amazon Price: $19.99 (as of 02/17/2012)![]()
List Price: $17.99
"Dennis "Denny" O'Neil is a comic book writer and editor, principally for Marvel Comics and DC Comics in the 1970s. His best works include Green Lantern/Green Arrow and Batman with Neal Adams, The Shadow with Mike Kaluta and The Question with Denys Cowan, all of which were hailed for sophisticated stories that expanded the artistic potential of the mainstream portion of the medium. As an editor, he is principally known for editing Batman. His 1970s run on Batman is perhaps his most well known endeavour, turning Batman from the campiness of the 1960s TV show, to "The Batman", getting back to the character's darker roots and emphasizing his detective skills. This grimer and more sophisticated Dark Knight, as well as new villians such as Ra's Al Ghul, brought back Batman from the verge of pop culture oblivion. His work would influence later incarnations of Batman, from the seminal comic "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" by Frank Miller, to the movie Batman Begins in 2005"-Amazon.com

Comic Book Females
Any women who remembers a time when wearing a pair of slacks in public was considered an activist rebellion, can relate to the comfort of seeing a women who could stand up to evil and also cook.
Mondern day examples of Wonder Woman can be seen everywhere in the media. My favorite example would be Amanda Tappings role in the Stargate franchise.

Batman in the Comics
Batman has come a long way since the 1960's !
I still remember the night that the Batman Series was previewing on television. We had a black & white television (the only color television on the block was researved for the Sunday Night gathering to watch The World of Disney program).
My brother and I had been waiting for a month for the program. We counted down the days. On the night of the preview we were even more excited.
We sat in a trance in front of the television as the show started and I don't believe we missed a single episode for all of the first season.
"Zonk!"
"Kabooooooom!"
&
"Holy Batwings Batman!"
became the language of the era.

- Hee. I went down around the convention center for the Distant Worlds concert that was happening on the water-- it was all the music of Final Fantasy performed by the San Diego orchestra -- and a lot of folks came out from ComicCon to attend the concert, so I saw some great cosplayers.

- Back in the eighties I was driving past a car lot with a fair for marketing; hot dogs, ponies, superheroes. One of my kids, and my, oft recalled memories is of Spider man jumping up and down along the sidewalk, and landing in the middle of a pony pie. His body language revealed what must have been his facial contortions under the mask. As we drove away, he stood there dejectedly, arms spread in disgust, shaking one foot in the air.
