The social space in which citizens in association do the work of problem-solving, celebration, consolation and creation
The Commons is a movement across Canada and the world. It is about the creation of a trusted third-space for people to work, share and play. It is also a move away from industrial management models and the bringing back of some older forms of work and community.
Note: this is a work in progress, and I would appreciate feedback on any aspect of this lens. My goal is to provide a single source of information on the Commons that exist or are being created. I am also looking for reference material that could help other communities.

- By Rob Paterson:
"The story that threatens us was born of a new technology. In the face of a desperate environmental crisis and a food shortage that occurred 10,000 years ago, humans reluctantly gave up living off the bounty of nature and took up a new living by using and controlling nature. In so doing, we not only domesticated some plants and animals but we also domesticated ourselves. For the price of a regular meal, most people became serfs. Most people today still are serfs. But, considering the circumstances, maybe it was the best deal we could have done at the time." - Commons on del.icio.us
