Communication Faux Pas in the 21st Century

Ranked #11,474 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #407,304 overall

Oops! I didn't want to do that!

Keeping in touch is easier than ever, but not quite a simple as it was in the days when penmanship counted. Today we email, text, tweet, Facebook, Skype, message, chat, IM, SMS, MMS and call. So many ways to send our thoughts and information - and so many ways to mess it up!

This morning, I posted a direct message to my daughter on her Facebook wall, instead of her inbox. Oops! As I found the "x" to delete it, I remembered this wasn't the first time. And I had instant flashbacks to memories of other faux pas moments when I've sent my text to the last person on the list, instead of the right person; when I've allowed autofill to finish the address to my email with out double checking to which Joe or Jane it would send; when I've answered that Skype call in video before I was ready for my day.

How about you? Smile at your mistakes and have some fun answering these polls about your "Oops" moments in the digital age.

Usually by the time we realize this mistake it's too late. Hopefully the recipient only hears random background noise and not the details about that surprise party you're planning, (or whatever).

Did you ever depend on autofill to complete the send to address and send your message to the wrong person?

It's times like this when communication gets a little too personal. Some people refuse the option of a camera connected to their computer. They must live in a perpetual bad hair day! If you're one of the mostly poised and brave ones, do take a few second pause to choose the right mode before you answer.
