Comparison of Toyota Etios And Maruti Swift Dzire

First and foremost let's discuss about the engine specifications of these two cars. Maruti Swift Dzire comes with 1.2L petrol engine and 1.3L diesel engine whereas Toyota Etios comes with 1.5L petrol engine and the company also has plans to launch diesel version in future. Both the cars come with five-speed manual gearbox transmission. Dzire petrol engine has the capacity to churn out peak power of 85 ps at the rate of 6000 rpm and peak torque of 132 nm at the rate of 4500 rpm whereas Etios petrol engine has the capacity to churn out maximum power of 90 ps at 5600 rpm and peak torque of 132 nm at the rate of 3000 rpm. As for acceleration, the Dzire reaches 0-100 kmpl in 13.8 seconds with top speed of 170 kmph whereas Etios reaches the same in 12.5 seconds with top speed of 175 kmph. However, the rest of performance parameters such as braking and handling are more or less similar to each other.

As far as exterior look and interior design are concern, both the cars have unique features. The Maruti Swift Dzire has voluptuous attractive look with a curvy bonnet whereas Toyota Etios traditional aggressive look. Swift Dzire is equipped with unique features like illumination control, trip meter, trendy tachometer, door trims with fabric accent, trunk lamp and so on, where as Etios has different features like steering wheel with leather cover, and chrome finished air-vents, internally adjustable OVRM and so on. Features like anti-lock braking system, power steering, power window, air-conditioned, CD-player, leather seats, dual airbags are common in both these entry level sedans. The boot space of Etios is 595 litres and that of Dzire is 430 litres.

The ex-showroom Toyota Etios price ranges between 5 lacs - 7 lacs, whereas the prices of Swift Dzire range between 5 lacs - 7.5 lacs. There is not much difference between the prices of these two cars. The Dzire delivers a mileage of 13.0 kmpl in city and 17.5 kmpl on highways, while Etios has mileage of 13.5 kmpl in city and 17.6 on highways.

On the whole Toyota Etios engine, interior and mileage has an edge over Maruti Swift Dzire, but when it comes to sales and service one cannot supersede Maruti Suzuki in India. Surely, Toyota India has done a lot of homework to compete and capture the market for entry level sedans.
