WHAT IS A COMPASSION BLOGGER?

Well, let's start with what is Compassion? Compassion International - or Compassion, as its friends call it - is working in 24 of the world's poorest nations to meet the many needs of children in Jesus' name: mental, economic, social, physical and spiritual. Compassion International believes that while a child may be born into poverty, poverty is not born in a child. Every child matters to God, so they all ought to matter to us.

What is a Compassion Blogger? Compassion, more than fifty years old, is breaking new ground for non-profits like itself. Compassion is equipping bloggers to talk about Compassion's work in the developing world in hopes that readers around the world will respond: pray, sponsor a school-aged child, care for infants at risk and help their mothers, send a student to college, or just learn a little more about life outside their own country.

CompassionBloggers.com (COMING SOON) is the on-line headquarters for this groundbreaking initiative. There, bloggers can apply to go on the next Compassion Bloggers trip where they'll see the work of Compassion for themselves up close. Bloggers can also grab banners, widgets and other tools for spreading the word about Compassion on their own blogs. And anyone can see the latest pictures, videos and posts from Compassion's roster of bloggers.

Why blog? Compassion has a million little reasons.

VIDEO FROM MOST RECENT COMPASSION BLOGGER TRIP: Uganda 2008

Compassion International did not shoot, direct, edit or even approve these videos. Every one was created by rookie videographers - bloggers documenting what they saw in Uganda for their readers back home. The result? Some of the most raw, emotional, powerful (and jittery) videos ever depicting Compassion International's ministry to children in the developing world.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING ABOUT COMPASSION BLOGGERS

Looked at with old economy eyes, Compassion is taking a huge risk, letting go of its marketing to 15 different near-strangers who might do anything. Looked at with modern eyes, Compassion is smart: willing to give up control in favor of being talked about by real people. (Donor Power Blog)

It's big. You have to be made of stone to hear these stories and turn away unchanged...Compassion International basically showed 15 bloggers how their organization works and then set them loose. They didn't tell those bloggers what to write. Compassion International had the guts to set them free and surrender control. (Church Marketing Sucks)
