One thing about recessions, they sure get people thinking about not paying so much at the grocery store. At the same time, we're thinking more about not poisoning the planet quite so much. That's where compost comes in! No more unnecessary waste in landfills, and you can grow better fruit and vegetables without pouring chemicals onto what will eventually be your dinner.

A quick introduction

I've been considering getting into various forms of compost farming for some time, and as I finally ramp up, I've created this lens to gather the resources that have gotten me going. I hope they're as valuable to you as they have been to me. Look for resources on vermiculture (worm farming) as well as some insights on home compost, farm compost, and obtaining and using horse, rabbit, and even alpaca manure. Yes, this is the place for useful poop!

Some good links I've found on worm farming

Green Mountain Soil
I found this link on a page asking for good places to buy red worms. Looks good so far.
D&S Worm Farm
This place came highly recommended for European Nightcrawlers, but I haven't used them yet.
Best place to buy red worms from online?
The people in this forum definitely have opinions, but it seems like some good resources here.
Wormman.com
This sit elooks like they have good prices for red worms, but I have to say the site looks a little .... dated. Haven't tried them out yet.
Worms at SeedsOfChange.com
I LOVE this seed site, and apparently they sell worms, too! I think this is just the worms, and not the trays, but I'll be checking into that.
Uncle Jim's Worm Farm
This seems a little expensive to me, but I love this tag line: "Turns 1 lb. of compost into 1 lb. of manure in only 24 hours" Amazing, right? Took me a minute to realize: 2 pounds of worms eat one pound of scraps a day, and it doesn't even have to be compost. Even more amazing than I first thought.

Some good links I've found out there

Information on Compost Tea
Compost is good, but sometimes you just want to add nutrients rather than lugging a big of compost.

What Amazon's got on composting

Interesting what they come up with, isn't it?

I'm not going to pretend I've hand picked these products; I haven't. This is what you get when you tell Amazon you want stuff labeled "compost". I'm as surprised as you are.
