Computer Desks for Home

Ranked #17,866 in Home & Garden, #256,020 overall

There are several different styles of computer desks that you can choose for your home. They all have certain attributes in common, but there are significant differences that make one variety more appropriate than another for one home over another. All of the computer desks reviewed below will have a storage area for the computer tower and a keyboard shelf. Some will have additional storage areas for a printer and a few will have some file storage as well.

Compact Computer Desk Cart by Techni-Mobili

This desk, true to its name, is quite compact and a great solution for small spaces like a dorm room or second bedroom that doubles as an office and gust room. The cart is on wheel which makes it easy to move round and store in a corner or closet I need be. The uppermost shelf which is holding the monitor in this picture can be adjusted so it sits in the center (as pictured) or on the left or right. Some people move it to one of the sides and use it as a printer shelf and put the monitor on the large upper shelf. The keyboard tray slides in and out when needed and the large bottom shelf is large enough to hold both your tower and a printer if necessary. One nice added feature is the CD rack on the side. If you use lots of software or do a lot of gaming this can come in handy.

This desk is quite simple to look at, but a great choice if you want something that hides the computer accessories well. The CPU storage compartment close like a cabinet so that the computer is out of sight when you do not need access to it. The back of the CPU compartment has an opening to allow wires in so that you do not need to run wires through the front door. The large center pencil drawer is actually a disguised keyboard tray with a drop down front. The shelf in the knee well is also nice for storage of extra supplies or a printer. This piece is part of an office furniture set including a hutch and lateral filing cabinet. If your home includes an entire room for an office, then this home furniture set would be a nice collection to have.

This desk is for the home office that has lots of room and needs a lot of work space. It might be suitable if you work from home and do not just use your home computer for shopping and surfing the web. The computer desk unit is designed to fit into the corner and is made of four separate parts. One side table is designed for the computer monitor and keyboard because it has a pull out key board tray. The other table is a plain workspace where you can store a printer, fax machine, or scanner or just work. There is a corner piece that fits the two sides together and a mobile CPU caddy that you can move under various parts of the desk. The metal mesh privacy panels make it possible to use the desk in a corner or with the corner edge facing a doorway. The elevated shelf on the corner piece is supposed to be for a printer so that you can store extra paper under the printer.

Dark Alder Computer Desk by Sauder Office Furniture

This last desk is probably my favorite of the bunch. There is a vertical computer tower storage area that does not have a door. That means it is easy to access the CPU when you need to. There is a pull out keyboard tray without a drop down front. I find that those drop down fronts get in the way when I want to pull up to the desk to work. The small hutch on the top of the desk offers two additional drawers for storage as well as a few nooks and shelves. I find these shelves perfect for storing bills and items that need my attention. The drawers are perfect for storing supplies and the elevated level for the monitor is a nice ergonomic touch. This computer desk furniture is made of alder wood and is quite attractive. People who have purchased this computer desk say it is easy to put together a good buy for the price.
