What "type" of stuff can you do in October?

Did you know October is Computer Learning Month? Yay! What does that mean?

It means, that you're one step closer to helping a deserving charity get the financial and in-kind support they need. And it's all about technology. What could be cooler?

This month we've selected three charities that fit the computer theme:

KIVA
Young Inventors International
American Institute of Architects

Ideas for your lens

Computers is an endless topic! Be creative. Have fun. Share.
  • Teach a Squidoo tip. Screenshots or video are super cool.
  • Profile your favorite computer books.
  • Teach a programming language.
  • Show off your favorite wireless accessories.
  • Dig up the coolest looking mouse pads.
  • Tell a story about something cool you did online.
  • Share tips on making a living online.

Donate Directly to KIVA

One module you can use on your lens is the Donate module. This helps readers send donations directly to KIVA. Maybe they aren't in the need for computer books or help, but just a few bucks makes a big difference in the lives of entrepreneurs world-wide.

Help Young Inventors International

Young Inventors International Inc. (YII) is a not-for-profit organization with a mandate to help driven and outstanding engineering and science university students develop their skills and networks of professional and entrepreneurial opportunities.

American Institute of Architects

Architects used to tote around blueprints. Now a lot of what they do is done with software and computers. Help support the future of architecture with a small donation, or add this module to your lens.

The AIA is the voice of the architecture profession. We're more than 83,000 members strong. The organization serves as the voice of the architecture profession and the resource for our members in service to society.

More ways to help

Besides building all those awesome lenses, there are a lot of ways you can help charities right in your hometown.
  • tutor a child or senior (or hook up the kids to tutor the seniors!)
  • donate your old computers and accessories to organizations that need them
  • donate your old cell phones to shelters for 911 service
  • donate a wireless router to a library or hospital. This can give internet access to dozens!
  • paper, ink, and office supplies that go along with the computer are also always in need
