There's nothing more frustrating then having a slow computer. I know the feeling.
I hate it when I run into the room to quickly check my email 15 minutes later I'm still there because it took too so long for it to load.
What Causes My Computer To Run So Slowly?
Your Computer is a Clunker
Your computer is too old and just don't have the power to run today's software and technology. If you're computer is more than 2 years old, you might want to look into upgrading it to stay up to date with technology.
The Windows Registry
One of the most crucial files in Windows is called the registry. The registry file contains very important information about your computer, the programs installed, hardware information, and much more. When this file becomes cluttered over time, it slows down the whole system.
Running out of Room
Too many programs installed, low on space. Windows takes advantage of the available space on your harddrive. When this space is low, windows will run very slowly. Also if the harddrive is not organized by running a disk defragementer, the fragmented files causes the computer to slow down as well.
Things you Don't Know About
Too many things running in background. Majority of programs that you install also runs in the background. Any type of firewall, virus scanner, spyware scanner, cameras, printers, email programs, etc, etc, etc usually install software that runs in the background monitoring your system. At any given time, even with nothing on your screen, there could be hundred of programs that are running in the background. These programs also use some of your computer's resources and when they're all running at once it's a huge drain on your system. Especially if your computer is a couple years old.
Corrupt Files
Sometimes when files are corrupt they cause the computer to run very slowly. Not all files in your computer are critical, but they play an important role in maintaining the health of the computer. If these files become corrupt and cannot perform their function windows cannot run at optimal speed.

How to Run a Disk Defrag?
Because this one file is split into hundreds of pieces throughout the drive, it takes windows a long time to locate each piece and put them back together.
The disk defragmenter looks at your entire drive and rearranges everything so these pieces are all together in one location. Because of this, the time it takes the computer to retrieve files from the drive is increased, which in turn speeds up the computer.
