Doing the Obvious First

1. Go to My Computer - Right Click C: Drive - Properties - Tools:

  • Run disk clean up and delete all temporary files, the trashcan and other junk files you will not need.

  • Defragment your hard drives - this might take a while depending on the size of your hard drive and how much is on it, but be prepared for at least 30 minutes.

2. Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs:

  • Uninstall any applications you are no longer using or don't need.

3. Go through your folders and delete files you don't need.

The above options are not necessarily very effective solutions, but this also depends on your computer usage;

  • Do you frequently download files from the internet?

  • Do you install many programs, such as trial version and freeware?

  • Do you visit websites you would not tell your mom about?

  • Do you often play games and push your computer to its limits?

If you answered yes to one or more of the questions above, you will probably have errors that needs to be fixed and we will look into those errors and how you can get rid of them so you can begin to enjoy your computer again.

Registry Issues

Most errors and problems in Windows are caused by registry errors. The registry is the headquarters of operations in Windows, here it stores all configuration files and system settings; any change made within Windows is stored in the registry. But due to this constant changing and adding of new data, the registry becomes cluttered and Windows needs significantly longer time to find the information needed.

Download a registry cleaner and scan your registry for errors

Signs of a Corrupted Registry

  • Start up and shut down takes a long time to complete.

  • Computer freezes, halts and performs slower.

  • When you launch a program, it takes a long time to start and the computer freezes, and programs become non-responsive from time to time.

  • You get various error messages, such as svchost.exe application error.

  • The computer suddenly stops responding, the screen turns blue and displays several codes and the computer reboots.

What can these errors lead to?

If these problems are not dealt with they will only get worse, the computer will slow down more, stop responding and potentially lose important system data. If this happens then Windows may become corrupt and the only repair option is to reinstall Windows entirely.

Solution

The solution is to clean up and repair the registry. It is not recommended to attempt to fix the registry manually, in fact it is nearly impossible: there could be hundreds of errors and even repair technicians use software when they make repairs in the registry.

Proper maintenance to the registry is essential to avoid errors and you should scan the registry and clean it up once a week, or at least every time you add or remove software applications.
