Computer Vision is the field of science that tries to give computer sight by using camera and other sensors.

It aims at giving it tools to recognize what it sees, and act upon it.

Computer Vision Links

From The Web

The Computer Vision Homepage
The Computer Vision Homepage is a collection of links and resources for researchers ans enthusiasts of the field of Computer Vision.

It is maintained and hosted by the Carnegie Mellon University.

Unfortunatly, the links are not updated very often. So while the links are numerous, they are not exhaustive and certainly not up to date.

Camera Calibration Tools

Camera calibration gives you the intrinsic parameters of a camera view for a given lens, aperture, zoom, etc.

Using the Pinhole Camera Model, the intrinsic parameters are

- Focal length
- Principal point, (x, y) coordinates of the center of projection
- Skew coefficient, defining the angle between the x and y pixel axes, usually neighbouring 90 degrees.
- Distortions, radial and tangential image distortions

For every different configuration of a camera(zoom, etc.), the intrinsic parameters have to be recalculated.

Computer Vision Books

I recommend reading

Computer Vision: A Modern Approach

Very thorough book for the serious engineer. A little heavy on formulas, but everything is extremely well explained. My reference of anything that has to do with 3D geometry. Light on image processing techniques, more into 3D geometry.

Amazon Price: $94.40 (as of 10/10/2008)

Computer Vision

Introduces lots of image processing techniques, a little bit more user friendly than Forsyth's book, but not as complete as far as 3D geometry is involved. More into cognitive aspects of Computer Vision.
