- I had a foundation fail on one side of my house, because the builder pushed the dirt out to make a flat place to build on, but then didn't dig down to virgin soil when he placed the footers. Since the footers were sitting on non-compacted dirt, the house settled on that side and cracked the foundation and the sheet rock in the house.
