Living in condo

Advantages

Living in condo brings you many advantages. Mainly it's about comfort. Low maintenance, usually completely outsorced to contractor, good position near business districts and public transport.

Socializing opportunities are usually better too. Close contact with neighbours, but also near bars, restaurants, theatres give you the opportunity to step out of your home and reach the nightlife!

Design - condos and especially loft give you the opportunity to make your very special place. Yes, you can do it with house too, but this is much cheaper.

Affordability. Small condo is often the first property of your life...

Living in a family house

Luxury houses usually represent the top dream about home for most people. What is the plus of living in a detached family house?

Advantages

The biggest one is privacy. You have your house, your yard, maybe your garden. Having a piece of land is instinctive need. No neighbours are walking and knocking at your walls, no parties bothering you (at least not so much)

What about upgradability? You can improve your porch, build new garage or balcony. You can paint it black our install round windows. Do you want pool, fireplace, or both? It's not so easy in condo!

No parking problems. No need to explain this.

Healthier environment More trees, less fumes!.

Houses

Condominiums have too much concrete for me. I like dirt.

jeremejazz says:

Socializing and Affordability? sounds like a shanty to me.. except that it has a design.. plus you don't get much privacy on condos.......,,, and the weird part is when an earthquake strikes you, you'd be having a hard time when your condo is falling apart :P

miaponzo says:

I would do anything to have my own house or condo.. but I think I would prefer a house :) I HATE renting!!!

marckq says:

Condos are wonderful, low maintenance as you mentioned but I prefer the space and freedom of living in a family house

giftskingdom says:

I LOVE houses!

halibound says:

HOUSE! Even though my basement flooded I have insurance and it is covered. Get a new shower out of it too :o) I love my back yard...white fence... carport... I really love my first home. :o)

BizGuides says:

I know how Condos are built and they are Not soundproof.

GTA says:

I have both...I live in a house, however I kept the condo because of the view...

House wins hands down...

When it comes to air quality, condos suck.. On hot days during winter, you only have access to heat and no AC, opposite is true during summers when its cold, there is no heat..The humidity level is very dry in the winter time, your skin, eyes are dry and you wake up with a dry throat..Food odor penetrating your unit..Whats more scarier is bedrooms that back onto the other units living rooms. If that other unit has heavy smokers in the living room, guaranteed your baby or child will have itchy eyes when sleeping in the bedroom and you won't know. You might be lucky and smell the odor and get your kids get out of the bedroom...

Just think about the amount of germs that are in the condo. How many doors, buttons do you touch to get to your suite..Now multiply that by 100, 500 people etc...

If a house is to expensive compared to a condo, rent out a portion of it...

Condos only benefit developers $$$

House wins on numerous counts, which I will not get into because the air quality issue should be more than enough to convince a family not to move into a condo

I was recently looking for a place in Southeast Florida. I had a choice between a big house in a gated community with golf, tennis, huge clubhouse, beach club. And I had a choice of a waterfront highrise. I purchased the house (built in 1988), had most of it re-done, and now, it looks like a giant modern version of a big condo! It looks very modern, which I LOVE! T

hlkljgk says:

depends. our first house was a condo - the best decision for that time. now we prefer houses. but that could change. :)

CONDOS - JUST SOLD OUR HOME AFTER 20+ YEARS AND I AM LOVING CONDO LIVING!

gypsyman27 says:

Actually I live in a condo, I don't like yard work (or any other kind:~) and all of that is covered. See you around the galaxy...

LadySlew says:

Condos offer the advantages of ownership combined with advantages of apartment living. You don't have to worry about lawn maintenace, snow shoveling, etc.

GabrielaFargasch says:

I don't need to clean outside, cut grass, take care of the pool, garbage, sewage, heating, nothing! It is also safer in my opinion.

WhitneyWells says:

I hate cutting grass!

dryder says:

condo. Not much of a handy person and not into cutting grass etc

bebe19 says:

I prefer condo since I'm newly married, working abroad and maintaining a house is not an options because it will deteriorate easily since we're just there for a month in a year. However, long term goal is to build our dream house.

Good comparisons in this lens, well done. I may have to give in and move into a home with a lot, because I want to use wind power. Other than that , I prefer condo living. Take care of yourself. See you around the galaxy...
