Confessions of an Economic Hit Man

John Perkins reveals his own personal experience in this controversial book where he details his confession of 10 years as an economic hit man.

He reveals his own assistance to the US in the role of 'hit man' to do whatever it took to persuade leaders of other countries to ignore their campaign promises and thereby allow the US to exploit profit from their natural resources, especially oil.

His concern is that by doing so, we subjugate the very same principals that made the US great, that there is a system failure here - especially with regard to freedom and resources and pollution. He insists that we must transform the empire to regain the principles of our forefathers and fight for future generations.

What is Corporatocracy?

When Corporations are the REAL Power - NOT Government!

john perkinsJohn Perkins frequently uses the term 'corporatocracy', loosely defined as power given to US corporate entities to maximize 'profit before people', even when that involves controlling the resources of foreign countries via threats of murder delivered by 'hit men' like himself.

He cites many real-life examples of such actions in his books, incidents when the US ordered 'hit men' like himself to threaten, then shoot or assassinate newly elected leaders of other countries in order to control resources, especially oil.

He describes 'corporatacracy' as a situation with an 'empire without an emperor' whereby corporate sources have the real power in the USA over our economy, our resources and our debt.

"For a hundred years ...no corporation was allowed to get a charter unless it could prove that it served the public interest. And charters came up for renewal every ten years or so. They didn't get a renewal unless they could prove they served the public interest. That all changed with a Supreme Court ruling that made corporations equivalent to individuals in the late 1880s, and then John D. Rockefeller stepped in and really took things-made things go out of hand." ~John Perkins

Could Obama be a Victim of Economic Hit Men?

Could that be why he's broken every campaign promise?

obamaCould Obama be another victim of 'economic hit men'? He's doing quite the opposite of all those 'changes' promised in his campaign. Consider these words from Barack Obama in 2002:

"What I am opposed to is the attempt by political hacks... to distract us from a rise in the uninsured, a rise in the poverty rate, a drop in the median income?-- to distract us from corporate scandals and a stock market that has just gone through the worst month since the Great Depression. That's what I'm opposed to. A dumb war. A rash war. A war based not on reason but on passion, not on principle but on politics."

Yet not only do we remain at war in Iran and Afganistan, but now the US has bombed Libya.

“A mind-boggling reality check about Capitalism, Democracy and Corporatocracy in the US.”

Has Capitalism become a system of profit before people?

Loading

Yes, Capitalism in the US has clearly put profit before citizens.

Serenia says:

YES - the US government repealed the glass-steagals act which prevented wall street from doing things. Since that act has been repealed (by john Nccain around 1999 I think), Wall street is paying out more and more money on fraud schemes and demanding that the people (taxpayers) bail them out whenever there is no more money.
Also the government makes it far too easy for businesses and corporations to send jobs overseas in order to use the cheaper labour and make huge profits. The downside of this is to leave Americans unemployed. They say the unemployment rate is 9.1%. That is a huge lie. Its now way over 20% and that is considered to be DEPRESSION level. Since the government do not want to admit we ARE in a depression, they have to keep the unemployment numbers below 10% or they lose control. Too late - they have already LOST control.
I read this book and I was shocked at just how much the USA truely INTERFERES in world affairs. The USA needs to learn to STAY OUT of other peoples (or countries) affairs. As Ron Paul keeps saying - If the USA were to get out and STAY OUT of other countries, the world would not be in this mess. John Perkins is an excellent writer.

crosscreations says:

YES is has. Unfortunately, the driving force that runs the US is profit, and to trust the government to care for people before profit is not wise.

No, profit has not been put before people.

The jackal whispers,
"I remind you...in this pocket I have a couple of million dollars
and in this pocket I have a gun."
ie. Change your campaign promises
or die. You choose.

What Can We Do?

democracyPerkins suggests that we have the resources to change (the economy, poverty, etc) so that our children will grow up in a peaceful world. He cites examples of effective actions by organizations such as:

Rainforest Action Network (RAN),
Move On
Amnesty International
Democracy Now

All of the above were able to incite changes in huge corporations who were exploiting the resources of other countries.
