Anna Myers Biography
Anna MyersAnna Myers was born in White Face Town, Texas. An oil field worker was her dad's job. Also she has five older brothers and sisters. She got a baby brother when she was seven. Her and her family moved to Oklahoma when she was only a few months old. She was the only one in her family that was born out of Oklahoma. One of her Uncles always called her "Tex".
She went to college at what is now the University of Central Oklahoma. While she was there she got a degree in English education. After college, she became an English teacher. She taught in Tulsa and Norman, Oklahoma, and New York City. For 25 years, Anna taught in high schools and junior highs, and most of those years were spent in Chandler Junior High.
In 1969 in Woodstock, New York, Anna then married a young man named Paul Myers. They were married thirty years, when he died of cancer. Paul was her best friend and her partner in everything. Because Paul was a poet and extremely talented with words, he helped Anna a great deal with her writing.
She and Paul had three children, Ginny, Ben, and Anna-Maria. They were all born within four years. For a while, she was a very busy mother, but she still thought that some day she would be a writer. By the time the kids were in upper elementary school, Anna knew she had to get serious to help pay for their college education.
Anna now lives her life in Oklahoma as an eigth grade teacher. She has won Oklahoma Book Award twice. One of the times was in 1993 for Red Dirt Jessie. Another time was in 1996 for the book Graveyard Girl. She has written more than a dozen books. It took Anna seven years to finally sell a book and that book was sold in 1992. After that she has written a book for every year - a book a year.
