Welcome to the Congenital Heart Defects Fundraising Lens

This lens is dedicated to raising awareness of Congenital Heart Defects (CHD) and raising the money necessary to help fund operations to correct CHD.

Every year, hundreds of thousands of children are born with heart disease.  Most of them will not receive any treatment.  Of the 1.5 million heart operations perfomed world-wide last year, only 25,000 were for children with heart defects.  In many cases this is because young parents don't have access to healthcare or can't afford the expenses.

Learn more about this project and the man behind it, pediatric heart surgeon, Dr. Mani Sivasubramanian at CHDinfo.com.

February 14th is A Day For Hearts

Join us in Promoting Awareness of CHD

On this special day, CONGENITAL HEART DEFECTS AWARENESS DAY, a concerted global effort will be made to spread awareness of this deadly group of birth defects, by offering information, resources and support to those whose lives have been touched by Congenital Heart Defects.

Remember to build you own lens and add it to the group as soon as possible. Dr. Mani and his kids need our help!

Why I am Participating in the CHD Squidoo Project

There are several reasons why I am participating. As a fundriaising consultant I advocate using creative, do-it-yourself fundraising methods. Dr. Mani and his one-man fundraising efforts, using the power of the internet, have been inspirational as well as great successes.

On a more personal note, both of my brother's children were born with congenital heart defects that required surgery. My nephew has the most serious problem, ToF. Fortunately, my brother has health insurance and access to the pediatric heart surgeons at Boston Children's Hospital. Without being overly dramatic, if my brother did not have health insurance to cover the operations, my nephew , now a college student, would not have lived past the age of five.

I urge everyone to participate in some way to raise money and awareness for CHD.

Great lens on an important subject. I had a student that I was very close to who has this problem and has had two heart transplants. Nice to see a lens to help raise awareness and be a great resource to others. Keep up the great job on your awesome lenses!
