Congo Tetra

The congo tetra is a great fish for many community tanks. It is large for a tetra making it ideal where smaller fish may become lunch. It's metalic finish gives it a strong presence, especially when grouped with other congo tetras as a school. It has large scales that make it seem prehistoric at first glance.

Like many other tetras they are not difficult to breed. They follow a typical egg scatterer breeding pattern. Provide them with fine plants in which to deposit their eggs. Congo tetras should be available from most medium to large sized fish shops. If not you may choose to shop for your tetra online.

Congo tetras will tolerate strong aquarium lighting which will also help to enhance their appearance. Soft slightly acidic conditions are preferred regarding the chemistry of their aquarium. Feed congo tetras with tetra food or a general purpose flake.
