Attend to the United States Congress

There's a tendency among Americans to pay attention to presidential politics to the exclusion of what's going on in the United States Congress. The drama of the presidency is easy to follow. After all, it centers on one person. The Congress, on the other hand, is made up of hundreds of people.

There's no doubt that the President of the United States is important, but under the Constitution, the Congress are a co-equal branch of government.

This lens focuses on the activities of Congress, helping to direct people to resources through which they can learn more about who represents them, and how the laws of the land are changing, for good and for bad.

Political Notebook

A collection of notes from OpenCongress

Take a look at a sample of the sorts of notes on congressional legislation that can be assembled through the legislative social networking site OpenCongress.org. The system allows people to rate legislation, comment on it, and assemble relevant reference materials into a notebook. There's also the ability to link to "friends" on the system, as with Facebook, though I don't see that feature being used quite so much.
