Bring The Little One Along For The Ride!

When you are out riding and need to carry someone or something, a bike trailer like the Burley bicycle trailer is your finest bet. Stop leaving your small children alone while you enjoy the outdoors. A bike trailer lets you have some company. Utilizing a metal towing bar is all it usually takes to set up a cycle trailer. You will learn from this article just how to put a bike trailer on your existing folding or electric powered bicycle

Part 1: Removing Your Wheel

Starting Off Right

Burley TrailerOn the left side of your ride there is an axle nut. Loosen the one on the rear wheel. On some models of bikes, there is a certain attachment on the right side that is necessary to adjust to get the axle nut loose off of the other side. Proceed to unthread the wheel axle nut on the left of the cycle. Grab the best wrench you got and carefully unthread the nut. If you are lacking a release valve then this is simple.

Look for tab washer made of plastic that came with your bicycle trailer. Proceed by placing the plastic tab washer over the left axle with the trailer attached. The trailer should be able to go right over the bike frame, making a flush fit that will make you smile.

Part 2: The Coupler Plates

Getting Technical

Bicycle TrailerThe next step includes the coupler plates that are provided. The back of the coupler plates will align directly with the plastic washer. Slide them into place over the tabs. If your couplers are correctly installed, then you will see the axle being above the greater hole.

On the end of the axle, you'll need to replace the nut. If you have a release skewer, you'll be able to tighten the nut with your hands. This step is forgotten by many. Close the lever on the right hand side of your bicycle! If you don't have the release skewer, you can position the nut with your hands but you'll need to tighten it with a wrench. Remember this may be different for electric bikes.

Part 3: D-Ring Time

Almost There

There is a large hole that aligns with the bike trailer tow bar. Look at your coupler plate to find it. With the tow bar lined up straight with the coupler, you can take the fastener pin and safely insert it to make it stay. Easy enough.

Take the safety strap which is found on the tow bar and loop it around the tube of the frame. It should be positioned vertically from the axle. The end of the safety strap should then clip onto the D-ring which can be found on the tow bar of the bike trailer.

Time To Ride

Great Job!

Bikes With KidsThese steps are very fast, and you will be using your trailer in no time. If everything looks well after another safety check, then you are done! Then get out there and enjoy the ride with your child in the bicycle cargo trailer!
