Enlightenment, Holistic consciousness and thought...

These video's go into the deepest problems inherent in our culture and attempt to solve them on an equally deep level: on the level of consciousness. Most of these people also agree that in order for our culture to face up to the basic problems inherent in globalism and ecological problems we need to change the way we look at the world: we need to start thinking holistically.

Debate this: do we have a soul?

Seeing without ego consciousness

"What Is Enlightenment?" Adyashanti

Many people think that enlightenment is an altered state of consciousness. Actually, what we perceive every day through the distorted lens of ego is the truly altered state -- we see things that don't exist, we believe things that aren't happening, and we live in a false world of our own creation. In this direct and practical satsang, Adyashanti opens the door into the clear seeing that is our natural state of enlightenment.

Holistic Consciousness - a report of a confererence of scientists

Facing up to how our consciousness causes the problems in our world: environmental, war, poverty.

Meeting in 2006 of scientists in Dusseldorf. They all agreed that the worlds present condition had been foreseen by people thousands of years ago.

People treat each other very badly. Can human behavior even be called rational? What is the true purpose of life? Why don't we know how to be fulfilled? Why do we try to fill that hole with pleasure?
Labeling creates a fragmented self, which causes a fragmented world.
Classical consciousness is linear - but insight comes in flashes.
Consciousness is non-local. Conscious experience is possible without the body (NDE)

Subjective experiences need to be included in scientific research.

Humanity is together One Body - we operate as one big organism. But we lack the awareness of this oneness.

Our consciousness needs to transform in order for humanity to survive.

Noosphere = universal love. By destabilizing it we destabilizing it, we destabilize the world.

What IS holistic thought / holistic consciousness?

Mystics of all ages have described that in their most sacred moments they felt a oneness with not only God, but the Universe as a whole. This state of consciousness is called 'holistic consciousness'.

Holism - the idea that things can only really be understood in their context - is the basis of many of the most important scientific developments. For instance: ecology is a holistic science. That is: a science in which not only the parts need to be understood (in that case: animals, plants, climate etc.), but also their interconnectedness.

Some people feel that if our culture is going to adapt to this new world we are collectively creating, we need a holistic consciousness. We need a holistic culture in fact: a culture which takes the interconnectedness of nature and society as a basic fact of life.

This interconnectedness IS actually a basic fact of life. We are directly connected to the people in China making our clothes. We are directly connected to the farmers in Southern America that grow our coffee. But most of us don't realize that.

The video's on this page are of people that feel that for our culture to catch up to our technological interdependence, we also need a shift in consciousness. We need a collective shift in consciousness.

I don't know if that's possible. I do agree though that greed is literally destroying our planet. Perhaps holistic thought can help us counter that enough to help us save it.

Jiddu Krishnamurti on Consciousness in Saanen

It is hard to discover together... we need to discover for ourselves what lies behind all the destruction and violence in the world - and in ourselves. To understand the depth of all that, the significance of all this. We need to observe together. Observe the same thing. That examination is prevented by us clinging to our prejudices, our experiences...

We face a disintegrating and degenerating world. Where the sense of morality disappears. Where there is nothing sacred in life. No respect between people. To understand all this deeply is the issue.

Holistic Consciousness expressed poetically

The Great Way is not difficult
for those who have no preferences.
When love and hate are both absent
everything becomes clear and undisguised.
Make the smallest distinction, however,
and heaven and earth are set infinitely apart.
If you wish to see the truth
then hold no opinions for or against anything.
To set up what you like against what you dislike
is the disease of the mind.
When the deep meaning of things is not understood
the mind's essential peace is disturbed to no avail.

*

The Way is perfect like vast space
where nothing is lacking and nothing is in excess.
Indeed, it is due to our choosing to accept or reject
that we do not see the true nature of things.
Live neither in the entanglements of outer things,
nor in inner feelings of emptiness.
Be serene in the oneness of things
and such erroneous views will disappear by themselves.
When you try to stop activity to achieve passivity
your very effort fills you with activity.
As long as you remain in one extreme or the other
you will never know Oneness.
Those who do not live in the single Way
fail in both activity and passivity,
assertion and denial.
To deny the reality of things
is to miss their reality;
to assert the emptiness of things
is to miss their reality.

Pondering Aurobindo

Opposition is necessary for spiritual evolution. So it's not that consciousness was first - or matter was first - but God is manifesting THROUGH matter.

Ego is a closed loop

Andrew Cohen and Ken Wilber in dialogue with an audience

Working on not being selfish doesn't work, because the ego is a closed loop. A lot of spiritual practice is staying within the ego-loop. But there is always a spark that already knows it.

The only way out of hell - is being aware of it. But don't sink into self-pity.

You may be correct. And I will still strive to help more folks to think holistically.

spirituality, at 5am on September 20, 2008 predicts:

I do think our culture is starting to think more holistically. However I don't think it's very likely that a higher percentage of people attain the highest enlightenment. One can always hope though.

Individual consciousness is grounded in universal or non-individual consciousness

Individual consciousness doesn't arise in sleep. It arises as soon as we wake up.

Before all that there was only consciousness -because consciousness is the beginning, the middle, the end.

The Spirituality of Tomorrow

Ken Wilber about the various forms of spirituality. Not anti-rational, but not rational either. Which is hard to communicate with from a rational perspective.

Oneness with God is our purpose: Meher Baba

About how creation originated - imagined through the individual ocean. How individuality works. How we identify ourselves. How our consciousness evolves through increasingly complex physical forms.

This process parallels in some respects Charles Darwin. But for Meher Baba form FOLLOWS consciousness.

In the human form we consistently reincarnate to learn. A false notion of separateness arises. Evolution out of that is the last step out of the wheel of spiritual transformation.

Wow. There is so much here to view. I liked the animation on consciousness. Its gonna take a view visits to fully appreciate what you have assembled. I know a few and and have heard of the others. Now I can enjoy them as a unique grouping.

I think holistic thinking or consciousness can help us towards enlightenment. I think we need to step into the mystery which is beyond what we would consider consciousness. It feels to me that when we descend into mystery we enter a state of awareness that is more about love, relationship, dignity and oneness. When we return to the world we may take back our experience of mystery to enhance and enliven our holistic consciousness. Perhaps good thoughts require love.
