Constant Anxiety; How to Cope with (Eliminate) Constant Anxiety

Constant Anxiety Sucks

Well, actually, you can't COPE with constant anxiety effectively because it is completely life-sucking and debilitating.

In my opinion, the only way to get your life back (or to get a life) is ELIMINATE constant anxiety.

It can be done. I did it. Many people have done it, although it may not seem like it's possible when you are right in the middle of it.

Stick around, read how I did it. Leave a comment ... let's talk about it!

The Basis of Anxiety

highly sensitive person bookThe basis of anxiety in my opinion is a fear of being afraid. Those sensations that you get when you are afraid - they are horrible and life-sucking and they can just get so awful.

Many people don't understand this because they've never felt it to the degree that people with anxiety have, or they aren't as sensitive to the sensations as we are.

(--- Just so you know, being highly sensitive to fear is no bad thing. According to the author of the Highly Sensitive Person, 15 to 20% of us are highly sensitive to what's going on in our bodies and to external stimuli. (I am, my mom was, my son is) In older times, highly sensitive people were extremely valuable to have around, as they sensed danger earlier than everyone else.)

So, in my opinion and experience, what has to happen for you to cope with and eliminate your anxiety is you have to learn to short-circuit those THOUGHTS that start cruising through your brain and causing the sensations ... and then you have to become desensitized to the actual state of anxiety - it has to become no big deal.

Or at least this is how I interpret what has made me happy and calm and relaxed and healthy .. probably for the first time in my life.

Ok, so I have two recommendations to help you be one of the ones who manages to get rid of their constant anxiety in this way.

The Panic Away Program
My number one recommendation to learn how to effectively cope with and eventually eliminate constant anxiety is to get the panic away program.

This is the most expensive one thing that I recommend up front, but if you can believe in the program and follow it, I believe anyone can deal with all their anxious feelings to the extent that eventually they won't happen or wont' happen in a manner that will derail your life or even your thoughts anymore.

You learn to move with your sensations, instead of them overtaking you.

So, if you can afford it right now, I highly recommend that you just go for it and get the panic away program.

The techniques outlined in it are exactly what helped me get better - but you'd get them a lot quicker than I did.

I discovered most of the truths and techniques outlined in the program myself, but it took me five years of reading to do it. I know you don't want to have to wait another five years.

Plus, there was one technique that I had never heard of or thought of before I bought the program - and it's a good one (demanding more - I can't do it justice explaining it - you have to read the program).

Anxiety Books; Books to Help Anxiety that Have Helped Me Personally

The Second thing I Recommend for Anxiety

loving what isThese are the books that I recommend to help anyone become a calm, relaxed, happy person (instead of a high-strung, anxious pers). They worked for me.

Just FYI, they worked for me, but it took 5 to 6 years. I always recommend the Panic Away Program as a way to cut down that time by many years.

After I found relief from my own anxiety (and my main issue, which was fibromyalgia) I started trying to help others. I wrote my own book on how to reverse fibromyalgia but didn't think I had the real answers to write an anxiety book.

A friend recommended the Panic away book as something that had helped her, so I bought it and read it. It was fabulous. It covered EVERYTHING that I had learned on my own over 6 years and even something I had never read or thought of on my own.

So anyway, the Panic away book is my number one recommendation, but the most expensive up front.

Below is the list of the other books I read over the years that helped me. Many of them can be found at your library.

You Can Feel Good Again

You Can Feel Good Again: Common-Sense Strategies for Releasing Unhappiness and Changing Your Life

Amazon Price: $6.47 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

Great book. I've read it three times, and every time I get something new out of it. Every time I add a little more healthy tools to my belt. I probably will read it again. Very simple philosophy - your thoughts cause your pain, and you can let go of your thoughts.

I Need Your Love Is that True?

I Need Your Love - Is That True?: How to Stop Seeking Love, Approval, and Appreciation and Start Finding Them Instead

Amazon Price: $7.36 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

Great book. I think Byron Katie, or KT as she calls herself, is one of the true spiritual masters of our time, and she didn't set out on that path. Her story is fascinating to me. Like God burned away her personality in one night when she was 40 something years old, and now all that's left is God (or Nature, as she says). Really good stuff in this book. It fixed my relationship with my husband and helped my relationship with myself.

Loving What Is

Loving What Is: Four Questions That Can Change Your Life

Amazon Price: $5.93 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

Another great one by KT. If you are a Byron Katie fan, or a fan of a clear mind, this is another great book for you.

Emotional Clearing

Emotional Clearing: An East / West Guide to Releasing Negative Feelings and Awakening Unconditional Happiness

Amazon Price: $11.61 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

One of the first self-help books I ever read that actually helped me. It's not easy work, but it was very helpful to me.

The Astonishing Power of your Emotions

The Astonishing Power of Emotions: Let Your Feelings Be Your Guide

Amazon Price: $7.20 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

Really cool information. It's not for everyone, and some people may have a hard time believing it, but if it resonates with you, your life will change. a lot.

Anxiety Help - How I found Help for Anxiety

My Story

lisaSo, I'm Lisa. As I'm writing this I am 38 years old. I was born in northern Illinois.

I had a fairly 'normal' childhood, except for some extreme instances of abuse.

I try not to focus on that these days, so I'll just say it happened, and I'm sure it had a lot to do with the anxiety issues that I have had.

Personally, I think that many people in our society have more instances of anxiety than most people would consider normal. I think this is a very underground issue that people are afraid to talk about.

It was never something that I talked about - but now that I'm out the other side of these issues I don't have a problem with talking about it anymore. It doesn't bother me if people know that I used to have problems with lots of anxious thoughts and sensations.

What Triggered Anxiety in me the Most

My biggest issue was what other people thought of me. If I was being criticized by anyone who had authority over me, I would get very anxious.

There was a time in my life when I got so 'tense' and 'bound up' that I didn't even notice my anxiety sensations in the moment.

Normally, these feelings would spill over and I would start to cry - I can remember so many instances of trying so hard not to cry (because I was at work or in school (college) or in some situation where it wasn't appropriate.)

Argh. that was the worst. but it doesn't happen to me anymore.

I remember one time being at the doctor for something totally unrelated and starting to cry while she was talking to me for what appeared to be 'no reason' and the doctor put me on an antidepressant!

That was in 2001.

This was just my life. I actually didn't even realize that I had issues. I was just trying to get through every day without any real thought to my health and well-being ... or lack of it.

First Fibromyalgia, then Anxiety Realizations

In 2003, I had my first child. After the pregnancy I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I was miserable. My muscles were so sore all the time. I wasn't sleeping well. I couldn't hold my son. I couldn't work. I couldn't even put my hair up.

After several months of misery I discovered that I could decrease my pain levels with bodywork, so I decided to try to reverse my disease (or at least try not to feel so miserable all the time).

One day, I realized that no matter how much bodywork I did, one incident of anxious feelings or angry feelings or panic-y thoughts, or even general upset-ness would put me right back at square one with my pain levels. Any sort of negative emotion caused my symptoms to return like I hadn't done anything.

This was the point where I realized that I had to get both my emotions and my thoughts and any propensity I had to feel anxious, depressed, angry, or upset under control.

So, this was the point where I started looking for solutions to my anxiety. I read a lot of books. At the same time I did a lot of bodywork. I tried a bunch of nutritional strategies. I tried everything I ever heard to help both anxiety and fibromyalgia.

I started keeping journals of what helped and what didn't (and what made things worse) and I did a lot of what helped and stopped doing what didn't.

Success

Every year I felt better. Every year I had less pain. Every year I slept better. Every year I felt less anxious and was more able to stay even-tempered and even-keeled.

In about year 6, I considered my fibromyalgia cured. I also considered my anxiety cured.

I no longer felt muscle pain, really at all. I slept great. I never had any issues with thoughts and sensations running out of control in my mind and body.

Around year 5, a friend told me about a program she had bought that had really helped her. She knew I was answering questions online for people who were looking for help with fibromyalgia, and she knew how connected emotions and fibro are, so she thought I might want to recommend it to people who had anxiety issues too.

The program was Panic Away. I bought it and was blown away.

Here was every single thing I had learned over the last 5 years that helped me get rid of my anxiety, all neatly wrapped up in one program!

Plus, it contained one awesome recommendation I'd never run across and hadn't come up with myself. (demanding more - you have to read the book - I can't do it justice)

So, I read dozens, and dozens of books and talked to tons of people and thought and journaled and spent hours trying to figure all this out, and here's this book that already had everything wrapped up in one neat package.

.... If I had found the book 3 to 4 years before, I wonder if I could have cut my recovery time in half or down to one year.

So, I totally recommend Panic Away, and all the books that helped me the most - see them just above..

I'd love to hear from you (leave me a comment), and I really recommend you check out Panic Away and the books that helped me.

Anxiety is often underestimated as a psychological problem... and it shouldn't be!
