How Does Constant Content Work and How Can I Get Started?

As mentioned above, Constant Content helps you set up an account, so when CC's customers find your original content, they can buy it and CC pays you a commission based on the price that you set.

You write or film your content, post it to the site, select categories and keywords so people can find it, and people buy your content. When CC receives payment, they pay you your commission once a month. It's just that easy.

We'll go into more details on how to set prices and what to expect later. In the meantime, let's get you started.

When you go to Constant Content, you can click the Registration link about halfway down on the left.

This will take you to a page with two big buttons:

Click the Author button to go to the Create an Author Account page.

Enter in all of your personal information.

Note:You have to have PayPal in order to get paid, so know your PayPal e-mail address.

Also, you can select whether or not to receive alerts when a purchase is made, or to be on the public request mailing list. Don't worry about these too much right now, because you can change them in your account info at any time.

Read about all the rules, conditions, and licensing rights, check the yes box to agree to everything and click the Create Account button.

Congratulations, you've now a new Constant Content author.

How Do I Earn Money Through Constant Content?

Constant Content is doing the heavy lifting here, but they still pay you a good portion for your work.

Every time your content sells, you earn 65% of the sale price.

Since you get to set the sale price, you are also setting your commissions, so you can figure out whether you are selling your content at the right price for you.

There are 3 levels of rights (Usage, Unique and Full Rights), and each one typically has a different price which you can set (See the table at the top).

Clearly, usage gives the buyer the least rights, and as a result, costs less to post. Any buyer who selects the usage price should know that the article remain so that other buyers can also buy and use the content. This will not make it exclusive to their website or other forum.

Unique and Full Rights make it so that one buyer can purchase the content, and no one else. If you're going to use this option, you should be certain that you only want to sell the product once, and price it accordingly for maximum income. Full Rights gives the buyer more rights to modify and distribute the content.

Usage vs. Unique/Full Rights - If you think your content will have legs and sell lots of times, I recommend Usage. If you are looking for one ideal buyer, go for Unique/Full Rights. If you want to retain rights of your content, do Unique, but if your rights don't matter, go Full Rights.

Recap
Usage can be bought by multiple buyers, but cannot be modified.
Unique can be bought by only one buyer, but cannot be modified.
Full Rights can be bought by only one buyer, and gives the buyer the rights to do anything they want with your content.

You can price each piece of content with multiple options, and typically:

Usage < Unique < Full Rights

so price your content accordingly.

If you want your content to be purchased multiple times, only set a price for Usage.

Pricing

Setting a price is tricky. Pricing is up to you, but prices in the $10-$100 range are common, so don't be shy in shooting for the moon. Just be aware that crimping your prices a bit might bring more business, and as your reputation grows, people might pay more for your content. Also keep in mind that 35% of your prices are going to Constant Content.

What Kind of Writing Can I Do?

There are several categories with copious sub-categories to choose from for your style of content development.

Reviews - If you have something to say about food, movies, shows games and travel, there are 14 sub-categories to choose from.

Tutorials - If you are adept at describing a process step-by-step, you'll want to write some tutorials. There are 15 technical sub-categories waiting for your knowledgeable walkthroughs.

Blog Entries - You can even write brief (or verbose) blog entries that bloggers can just post to their sites. 19 sub-categories cover a variety of interesting topics.

Articles - If what you want to write about doesn't fit the above, you can still write an article on dozens of subjects, giving you the leeway to write about just about anything you want.

Submitting Written Constant Content

When your review or article is ready, log in to Constant Content and click the Submit Article link on the left hand side.

The Submit Document form will load, waiting for your content.

If the document is a request, click the Request box at the top. If not, leave it alone.

Select a Category from the dropdown menu, and a subcategory dropdown will appear. Select a subcategory to improve searches.

Browse your system for the document, and open it to fill that spot in the form. Note - The document must be a readable file type such as .txt, .doc or .rtf.

Enter the Title of the Document.

Enter the Approximate Word Count.

Enter one or more prices for Usage, Unique and/or Full Rights. If you don't want one or more of the rights to be available, enter $0 for it's price.

Enter a short, descriptive summary of the content. This helps tell buyers what you've written so be descriptive. Be sure to proofread it. Once submitted, you cannot change the summary.

Submitting Written Content (Continued)

Enter more details about the content. You must enter at least 1/3 of the actual content of the document so buyers can read a sample. This will also help them decide so select one of the best parts. Without the bulk of the article, it won't do them any good so don't worry about getting ripped off.

Finally, enter all the accurate keywords you can think of that fit your content. This will help buyers find your content in searches. The more complete your content, the more keywords you can take advantage of.

At the bottom is the Submit Article button. Click the button to submit your content.

And Now Wait...

Hold on there, your content is ready for sale just yet.

First, Constant Content will review your article for quality, originality, and to make sure it fits within their Submission Guidelines. If it doesn't fly, you'll get it back.

If it does go through, congratulations, CC is ready to sell your written content!

You can click the My Content link on the right side of the screen to view all of the content that is available or pending.

Formatting Written Content

Constant Content wants to represent the best quality content from the best writers available. As a result, they are picky about not only the quality of the articles and reviews, but their formatting.

Good formatting makes it easier for them to review articles, check them for professionalism and scan them for plagiarism.

A Word About Plagiarism

Don't do it. Both from a professional prospective, and for the fact that CC with suspend your account if they can prove it.

Constant Content is for professional writers, so be a pro and do your own work.

If you're ever in doubt about whether your article is stepping on someone else's or whether your article meets their requirements, you can always consult their writer guidelines.

The key points to remember when formatting your written content:
  • Write in Arial or Times New Roman Font - I prefer Arial because of it's improved readability, but because TNR is so popular, it is also a standard.
  • Do not use Bold or italic font except as emphasis or to offset subheadings from the rest of your text - Note that they make no mention of underline. I would suggest not using it altogether.
  • Make sure your titles are properly capitalized - Refer to the Chicago Manual of Style for tricky titles.
  • Paragraphs must be single-spaced without indentation and double-spaced between paragraphs - This is pretty standard.

What About Images, Illustrations and Videos?

I haven't forgotten about them. You can also get paid on Constant Content for submitting your original works of art, photography and videos.

Images

You can submit photographic images just like text by clicking the Submit Image link on the left side of the screen.

Select from 18 categories (you can suggest sub-categories by typing them in that box).

Browse for your file and upload it. Consider common image types, and note that you have a max file size of 6MB.

Fill in the rest of the info just as you would with text and click Submit Image.

Illustrations

Click Submit Illustration on the left side of the screen to open the Submit Illustration form.

You can select from several formats including .jpg, .gif, .bmp and .pdf (note that constant content does not consider documents in .pdf as docs).

Select from 11 categories and type in a sub-category if you like.

Set your prices, enter your summaries and click Submit Illustration.

Videos

I discovered that Constant Content's video form is not working. I don't know if this is a new service not set up, or one that was working and is now under maintenance. Hopefully this can be updated soon.

Just like with written content, pictures, drawings and renderings can be submitted to Constant Content, giving you more range and selling power if you are artistic as well as verbose.

Not Sure What To Write About? - Check Out Public Requests!

Once you're logged into Constant Content click the Requested Content link on the left side of the screen, and you will see the Public Requests table.

Here, buyers have submitted what they are looking for in content. A product review here, a humorous article there. Each entry shows what is desired, the buyer, when the request was made and when it expires, and the offered price on the job.

At the end of the table, you can click the links to get more information about the request, and you can also ask questions of the buyer about the project. When you ask a question, other authors can see the line of inquiry so all author's have a better idea of what is being requested.

Pretty cool.

Once you have an agreement with a buyer, you can either submit an existing article, or write one from scratch for their approval.

I'll go back to something I mentioned at the beginning.

Go into your account and check the "Email me when someone requests new content" checkbox. That way, when someone puts up a new request, you'll get it in your Constant Content inbox and the at the e-mail address you signed up with.

That way you'll know when new requests come in and you can jump on them faster.

Great Content You Already Have Lying Around

Surely, you'll want to write, draw and shoot new content for Constant Content, but you probably also have plenty of content already lying around, just ready to be loaded up to the site. Quick and Easy!

Note: Remember, it doesn't cost anything to submit original content to CC, so you might as well send up whatever you have, as long as it's something that could be in demand, and is professional.
  • Old term papers, reports, essays, theses, dissertations - Get em published. Someone can use that content as an authoritative source, or just fun information, depending on the quality of the paper.
  • Vacation Photos - If they look good, and they fit the topics of someone's web page or blog, they might be willing to pay well for them.
  • Your fantasy/sci-fi/action/comic book doodles. A cool drawing can make a great graphic for online content, t-shirts, prints and more.
  • Same goes with logos. Doodle a cool logo, but don't know what to do with it? Submit it and give it a shot.
  • Your own blog posts. If you put them up as non-exclusive (usage) rights, anyone can benefit from your wisdom (or goofiness).
  • Recipes - I don't know how successful you would be with the formatting regulations, but people go nuts over recipes. Give it a little description, a little story, and then make the recipe and preparation the star.
  • Squidoo content that didn't make the grade for a lens. Did you have a lens idea that was maybe worth one module but not a whole lens? Write an article and submit it to Constant Content.

One More Reason to Check out Constant Content

Constant Content also has a referral program. You may have noticed links like this secreted through the lens. When you click on them, not only do you go to the site to sign up, but when you publish content, I receive a 5% commission. This portion comes out of Constant Content's commission so we both win.

The point of this is, when you sign up and login, your referral URL appears on your My Account tab. You can add this url to your Squidoo lenses, blogs, and other content sources, and anyone who signs up and publishes through you gets you paid 5% thanks to Constant Content.

So do me a favor, if you sign up, click one of the links above.

Thanks!

Constant Content Experiment

I started at Constant Content developing some odd content, mostly because anything I created went directly to clients, and I was thrilled with the jobs that came into my inbox at CC. So how can I write more content that will draw attention without running out of material, while also showing that the content has enough merit to get people to pay for it?

I thought about deconstructing some of my useful and traffic-grabbing Squidoo lenses.

Here's how it would work. Take a look at a lens that maybe you don't have much time or interest for anymore, take the content submit it to Constant Content, price it and promote it in the description about how much traffic it has garnered at Squidoo. If you do this, you'll either have to draft a significantly different version so as not to incur duplicate content penalties, and so that it doesn't trip CC's content verification software.

The value here is that you can promote content to buyers that has seen actual traffic, thus making it more valuable. If you can show them niche data for the content (and optimize it so you can advertise it as optimized), then it should be more attractive to buyers. Obviously, their site still relies on their own SEO, but the content itself can be optimized and thus more valuable and more likely to be purchased as a product.

I'm going to study the feasibility of this and get back to everyone. If you want to try it with your own lenses, let me know how your sales work out.
