Food, Inc - Take Control Over Your Food
Ranked #13,574 in Entertainment, #150,895 overall | Donates to ONE Spirit
From Farm to Fork...know about the food you are eating!
A girls night out for a movie - Food, Inc and dinner changed my outlook on food forever! In fact when I got home that night sleep did not come easy. Instead of counting sheep I was mentally going through my kitchen pantry - not a horrible assessment, although I knew there were going to be a few things on the chopping block when I got up in the morning! And my husband did not even miss em'! :)
The three most significant things that I took away from watching Food, Inc. are:
~ Cases of Diabetes II in children is escalating and over the next ten years or more one in three children will have the disease. Type II Diabetes is not a childhood disease, it's been an adult disease. Pretty scary, huh?
~ Cows are NOT supposed to eat corn...they are supposed to eat grass. Have you seen the labels in the store that proudly say: Corn Fed Beef? Well, they have sold us on the idea that's how it is supposed to be!
~ The horrible conditions that "our meat" live in is disgusting! The slaughtering practices are even worse. Not only are the animals abused, so are the worker's.
Please watch Food, Inc and give me your take on the movie. If you have already seen the movie I'd love to hear your feedback!

Food, Inc Review
by Joe Shaw (used with the author's permission)
"The movie is a documentary about how our food is made. Although it did not teach me much that I didn't already know, it did reveal some facts that I wasn't aware of, and if these "facts" are true, we should all be concerned, if not shocked.
I knew that meat processing plants were harder to get into than a prison, a military base, or a nuclear power plant. Think "Area 51" and you get the idea. In the movie they make the point that "if these processing plants had glass walls, we would change the way we eat". I also knew about the miserable conditions under which animals are forced to live out their short lives in factory farms. As I have said in past blogs....When it comes to our food, we live in denial. We not only allow this denial, we demand it! We don't want to know the truth because if we did we might have to change how we eat and we don't want to change how we eat.

BIG Corporations Love Silence!
Isn't it funny how politically and spiritually charged people will research a subject to death to get their point across about an issue or to make an argument about something they passionately believe in, but when it comes to their food....the ethical treatment of animals, the chemicals, pesticides, antibiotics, genetic restructuring, the exploitation of illegal (as well as legal) immigrant field laborers and factory workers, and large government subsidies.....most of us, even the most curious and argumentative, are content to never question a thing about our food. Amazing!
But here's the thing I did not know, and what should concern all Americans regardless of how you feel about what you eat. Eighty percent of the food industry is controlled by four or five corporations."

- A very important subject; especially now with GMO's thrown into the mix with no labeling. And I think that there are now fewer food corps at the top than there were. I have begun not eating any grain product that is not organic to help avoid the GMO's and growing my own food to avoid so many of the other things. Less grain in my diet has equaled weight loss, more energy and less allergy symptoms.

- I really don't like all these additives and preservatives in my food, especially things that aren't good for me. We try to eat healthy most of the time these days.
