Generally plants that look good in garden are also best container plants. You need to use your imagination and select plants according to the climatic conditions in case you want to add glory to your container garden. Although you can have a long lasting garden in temperate or tropical climate areas, yet you may feel like changing the plants from time to time.

The size of the pot and the speed of growth of the plant must be kept in mind while selecting suitable plants for container garden. It should be checked that the plant selected for urn gardening is not very fast growing as it may outgrow the size of the pot and may make the garden look clumsy.

The height and width of the plant in a pot garden must be compatible with that of the pot. The height should not be more than two times the height of the pot and the width not more than 1.5 times the width of the pot. If you do not have exposure to enough sunlight, then you should not select the flora which needs ample sunlight for its proper growth, or else they may die soon.
