Contemporary Styles for Cabin Decor Create an Upscale Look
If you like the rustic look of cabin decor but still long for a contemporary style in your home decor we're going to show you some choices to help marry the two decorating styles for a wonderful new look in cabin and lodge style decorating without getting a themey uncoordinated look.
Less Themey Accessories = More Upscale Look
Keep Your Cabin Decor From Looking Hokey
No doubt about it, choosing too many themey accessories can easily go over the top and make your cabin decor look exaggerated and hokey. It's perfectly ok to have a theme but try to stick to only two at the most and have only touches of them here and there in your room. A couple of throw pillows with pine trees and moose or some needlepoint throw pillows with trout and fly fishing flies go a long way. Add to that maybe a high quality lamp with some element of your theme in the base of the lamp and/or in the lampshade. Try not to get too many things to set around on tabletops and bookshelves. That tends to look messy unless done well and very coordinated. Instead, add colors that coordinate with the few items that you are using with your theme. If your color palette is monochromatic select high quality items with lots of texture variation to keep your decor from looking bland. If you are going for bold contrast with color, that is fine as long as you generally keep the number of colors to about three and play down the textures just a little bit. Remember you are adding interest with a few touches of the theme of your choice so coordinate your color choice with those images in mind.

Materials for the Best Cabin Decor
Leather, Fabric, Wood, Glass and More
Furniture made out of hickory branches or birch bark, chairs or sofas covered in rich brown leather or shades of green, gold, brown or rust faux leather or suede, mirrors with wood or bark frames are wonderful choices for the core of your cabin decor. These pieces can be pricey so just one or two favorite pieces can become a focal point in a room. It doesn't mean that you have to buy a whole collection of birch bark furniture. Mix an expensive piece with some moderately priced pieces to help keep the cost down and still have a wonderful look.
