Content With Contents?
So why am I asking if you are you content with contents?
Well it's just that if you use the content module,each line of the table of contents is a copy of the title of each of your modules. WOw that last sentence reads funny. Maybe if you read on I will make more sense...
The Standard Table of Contents
Above this text you can see the contents at a glance feature of the Contents & Discovery Tool. Useful, but it doesn't allow for descriptions of each section.
Below this text is the table of contents module. As you can see it lists the titles of all of the sections in this lens. It does work well. What I am offering here is just an extension to it.
This came about as I was wondering if it was possible to create my own table of contents with working links. Well yes it is and the next section is an example of it.
The Standard Squidoo Table of Contents
The Customised Table of Contents

The How To Do This Bit....
- After you have finished your lense, then go to the Add Modules bit and add the Table of Contents module.
- You will also need to add a Text / Write module, if you don't have one spare.
Then create your links like this:
- Edit a Text / Write module.
- On the Table of Contents module click the first link.
- The address bar of your browser will have a new address in it. It will probably read something like this
'http://www.squidoo.com/lensmaster/workshop/contents
?bypass=true#module10318066' - Highlight and copy the bit at the end of the address that says
'#module(some numbers)'. - Now create a hyperlink by typing
<a href="paste the bit that says #module(numbers) here">Now add a title</a> Then you can add as much of a description as you want here.
An example of the finished code using the address above would read:
<a href="#module10318066">The Standard Table of Contents -</a> What does the standard Table of Contents look like, and why would I want to change it?.
The working finished line would look like this:
The Standard Table of Contents - What does the standard Table of Contents look like, and why would I want to change it?.
And that is it more or less. Just repeat clicking on the original Table of Contents to get other module numbers.
Then finally, delete the orginal Table fo Contents - unless you want both of course.
Dress Code
<ul>
<li>this creates bullets</li>
<li>and makes your contents look more ordered</li>
</ul>
<ol>
<li>Or maybe use</li>
<li>numbers if you prefer</li>
</ol>
The above would result in this:
- this creates bullets
- and makes your contents look more ordered
- Or maybe use
- numbers if you prefer
Other Uses?
You could also use the same link code to point people around your lens. For example You might have a section that you are refering to in your text that you want people to look at straight away. You could use the hyperlink to send someone to the section, and then add one to send them back.
