Handcrafted Sterling Silver Jewelry

I have original jewelry designs in sterling silver that cannot be found elsewhere. All of my pieces are entirely hand made by me. Do you want something that is unique and one-of-a-kind? Then visit my online shop .

Jewelry making started out as a hobby for me that got a little out of hand. Making quality jewelry, turned out to be a large commitment in time and money. Because of that, my husband told me that I better find a way of supporting my habit.

So, long story short, I began marketing my jewelry on a site called Etsy. It's composed of thousands of online stores filled with handmade goods.

Or, if you've ever read my blog, probably not!

I have a blog named Just Some Contrariwise Ramblings which, as you can tell from my writing style, is aptly named. I use it to write about some of my adventures (or lack there of) and I feature artists/crafters that amuse me.

(For an example, check out my Dec 18th post about Bunnies that Swear.)

Books that can get you started making jewelry from wire

Starting from the real basics

Making jewelry from wire isn't really that hard and it isn't something you should be afraid of trying. This book is great for those with interest, but absolutely no wire-working knowledge. The authors start from the very beginning including how to shop for beads, materials and tools, safety issues, and basic techniques such as jump rings, head pins and coils plus making your own clasps, chandelier earrings, a spiral bracelet, and much more.

Basics and a little more

If you are a beginner and want to learn about the proper tools to use, and looking for basic techniques, then I highly recommend this book. It was the very first one that I got. Everything is plainly written and the projects are step-by-step. The illustrations are also great. There is even a resource list in the back!

Basics, as well as more challenging projects

If you are only going to buy one book on working with wire for jewelry, this is it. It may be a bit daunting to the absolute novice but it is very well written and the step by step photos are incredibly helpful. This is one of my favorites.

What is Etsy?

Etsy is a website which provides a way to buy and sell handmade items. The site follows in the tradition of open craft fairs, giving sellers personal storefronts where they list their goods for a fee. It has been compared to "a crafty cross between Amazon and eBay and your grandma's basement".

Etsy supports sellers who sell handmade items that they have created. This ranges from artists who paint and create sculpture, to jewelry makers, beadmakers, knitters and crocheters. Not only is an affordable sales venue for sellers, but it also is a great resource for buying supplies that sellers use to create their art.

Anything and everything handmade can be found on Etsy, and the community has been building momentum. For more information, visit www.etsy.com!
