What Is Conversational Hypnosis?

Conversational hypnosis is a technique of inducing hypnosis among people with the help of normal but directed conversation. There is a difference between conventional hypnotism and conversational hypnosis. In conventional hypnotism, the hypnotist and patient are engaged in informal interactions.

In spite of this difference, conversational hypnosis is also influential and it can be used to efficiently deal with certain upsets and complicated conditions in the life of a person. This technique is also known to enhance the power of communication.

The initiative behind conversational hypnosis is communication. In this technique, the hypnotist gives confidence to the client to achieve a condition of altered awareness regarding the problem or condition of discussion. A hypnotist tries hard to ask questions or make speeches that force the client to rethink his situation or the problem. Thus, a hypnotist allows substitute situations or thoughts to cure the condition.

It is better if the hypnotists identify with the customers by listening and understanding their conditions while starting a conversational hypnosis session. For example, when a client is striving to come out of a fear of crowds, the hypnotist also should have the same opinion with the client when he expresses his feelings of fear, anxiety and sense of loneliness. He must establish a relationship with the client and should truly show that he is aware of the condition and sees it without a doubt as the client does.

Distraction is the next process of conversational hypnosis. During this process, the hypnotist goes on to divert the mind and feelings of the client by asking questions that drive the mind onto other objectives. The questions are theoretical and a little unbelievable but they challenge the concept of living without hordes of people. The objective behind asking such questions is only to get the client's mind out of his problem and to create conditions that will help him to come out of that condition. By doing this, other thoughts and solutions can come into the center.

Proposition is the third step of conversational hypnosis. Hypnotists use this process to help the client deal with his or her condition. However, this process is possible only when the client considers other thoughts regarding his problem. A hypnotist can end his conversational hypnosis session with the crowd fearing clients by advising them to be more sociable with people, for instance. On the contrary, he should explain what might happen if the client completely stops his contact with people.

During conversational hypnosis, a hypnotist needs to encourage the trance of the client. In this process, a hypnotist uses the specific language to get the client in a satisfactory condition of the mind. This process is same like a spellbinding trance.

The eyes of the client should be open and he should be full alert during the process. Thus, conversational hypnosis is about helping people come to a definite conclusion and making optimistic decisions, which are based on what he can imagine.

Getting Your Way Isn't As Tough As It Seems

Conversational hypnosis takes a different approach than traditional hypnotic strategies but it has the ability to yield similar or even better results. The power of communication is the tool of choice to either help a patient recover from a traumatic event or to reach a decision about a particular life situation that is causing them distress. But, these tactics are not just limited to those in therapy. Savvy individuals have been using these tactics to quietly tip the scales in their favor for years.

Traditionally Used As Therapy

In a doctor-patient relationship, conversational methods are used to get the patient thinking and talking about their situation in a comfortable, non-threatening setting. By creating casual interaction with the patient, the therapist can start to build rapport and trust. Through encouraging active engagement in the conversation, the therapist will often lead the patient to draw his or her own conclusions that will lead to healing or finding a solution to the problem at hand.

As a typical session begins, the therapist will help their client determine the problem at hand by listening and empathizing. The therapist will often express agreement with the patient's thoughts about the problem and acknowledge any feelings that might be communicated. The therapist will demonstrate through the conversation their genuine understanding of the situation. This has the effect of making the patient feel they are speaking with someone who clearly understands them and the challenges they are facing, which in turn increases the level of trust between the two parties.

Once rapport and trust have been established, the therapist turns to the next step in the technique - distraction. They will distract the patient's mind by asking questions about other things that may seem unrelated to the purpose of the session. By asking hypothetical questions, the therapist will take the problem off the patient's mind temporarily and get them talking in more general terms. Although the questions may appear unrelated, they usually tie in somehow to the eventual solution. Based on the answers and ideas presented, the therapist is able to challenge the thinking of the patient and allow them to come with their own conclusions and solutions to their problems.

You see, when someone comes up with their own solutions through a thoughtful process like this one, their decision is more powerful because it is their own. The therapist didn't listen to the problem and tell them what to do. Instead, the patient was skillfully lead to the answer and thought it was their own idea and became committed to the solution. Don't underestimate how powerful this is.

How Conversational Hypnosis Can Help You

How successful would you be if you possessed the skills to talk to someone and lead them to believing a point you were trying to make to them - without them even knowing you had a point?

For instance, if you are in sales you may have used this technique with some success. You get your prospect talking and you try to lead them to the conclusion that they should buy whatever it is you're selling. If you think back on successful sales presentations, you might notice that some customers just seemed to sell themselves. Whether you knew it or not, you may have employed some of these conversational strategies. What if you knew all the tactics and could make this happen every time or even every other time?

Have you ever watched movies where the evil wicked sorcerer ensnares an unsuspecting victim by just talking to them? Well, that's fantasy indeed, however part of it is true too. People use something called "conversational hypnosis" to influence people and mold them to their way of thinking.

What is conversational hypnosis?

Conversational hypnosis is no magic or occult practice rather it is series of well-planned strategies and the art of manipulating others to convince them to your point of view. Conversational hypnosis is based on certain principles that were discovered by the revered hypnotist Milton Erickson. Erickson said that people slip into reveries several times a day. These instances may include times when they are concentrating hard on something or waiting for a bus.

Erickson deduced that these trance states could be used for bringing people to your way of thinking. However, many people often resist direct counseling and suggestions. Often it happens that due to inertia or the natural ability to resist change, people do not like being told what to do. Hence Erickson suggested the use of rapport, confusion and circuitous ideas to bring them to a trance like state and get them around to his way of thinking. Thus rapport, confusion and indirection suggestions form the basis of conversation hypnotherapy.

Rapport: We all have tried to strike rapport with people around us. Rapport can be defined as entering into an agreement mode with the other party. For example if you are talking to someone and he says, "This is not the way" then you need to agree with the person and acknowledge that he is right.

Rapport helps in getting the subject's guards down. In case you strike a rapport with the subject then the subject considers you as "his party" and then it becomes easy to influence him.

Confusion: Another principle of conversational hypnosis is confusion. This means that the subject needs to be confused so much so that he does not know what to do and turns to you for an answer. Sometimes confusion can result from a simple question like "do you really think that the right way to do it?"

Sometimes reverse technology can also work and help you to steer the conversation towards the intended goal. This psychology works with teenagers specially. For example if you want them to study, tell them that studies are a waste of time then there is a high possibility of the subject arguing and telling you that studies are not a waste of time and that they want to study.

Suggestion: Once the rapport is established and you have confused the subject, then the subject is likely to ask you about what he should do. At that moment you need to make an indirect suggestion likes "this may make you feel better!"

Conversational hypnosis is an excellent tool to influence people to your way of thinking especially if your way is beneficial to them. However, word of caution here excess use of these principles may make the person see through your technique. Conversational hypnosis is a great technique to influence your lover or your friend to your way of thinking.
