DVD Ripping, Convert DVD to iPod, Converter Software
I must have tried at least 10 DVD to iPod software products and all of them were lacking something. Sure some of them worked but they also seemed to take forever to do the simplest tasks.
I don't think I was asking for too much, I mean I just wanted a product that worked. I was tired of wasting money. I knew there had to be a program that would convert DVD to iPod without requiring me to jump through hoops just to get the program started.
Well, it took some time, but honestly, I think I have found what I was looking for. The software is called PQ DVD to iPod converter. And the best thing is, you can try the converter software for free before you buy. It's a free download. Try it. If you don't think it's the best software to convert DVD to iPod, then just uninstall it from your computer. If you like it, and I'm pretty certain you will, you can register it from within the program while it's running. It's simply the best, and more importantly, the fastest way to rip dvd to iPod.
I would assume that since you are reading this you understand what the term DVD Rip or DVD ripping means? If not, well, it's simply a matter of converting one format to another for personal use. It's what we're doing when we convert a DVD to iPod.
How much iPod power do you need? The only other thing I would suggest is that you have an iPod that is at least 30 GB. My iPod is 60GB.
There are a lot of different types of media that you can convert to iPod. They are DVD, Tivo, DivX, MPEG, WMV, AVI, RealMedia and many more. All of these can be converted to iPod Video. My favorite feature is the super fast conversion speed. It's about 300% faster than other products. (the manufacturer claims it's 400% faster, but my experience says not quite) BUT regardless, having tried many of the other ripping products available, I can tell you for a fact that this ripping software is lightning quick. It's FAST! I don't know how else to say it. The software also features many advanced video editing features.
I don't usually review software, I don't believe most reviews anyway, I just want the ripping software to do what it is advertised to do, but searching for software that would convert DVD to iPod without driving me insane was both a frustrating but finally rewarding experience.

In the past this meant having to install a capture card with RCA, or component, inputs into the computer and using software that would capture and re-encode the video to DVD format. It was a real pain and took several hours to accomplish. Today things are much easier. We now have external hardware devices that will not only do the capturing but also do the conversion on the fly as its streaming to your computer.
The device we settled on was ADS Technologies DVD Xpress DX2. This device has RCA component inputs as well as S-Video. It connects to the PC via a USB port and is detected by Windows XP as a capturing device. The software drivers are easy to install and the device loads the drivers without problems.
Now here is the sweet part about the ADS DVD Xpress DX2 the software suite it comes with integrates with Ulead DVD Movie Factory which is included with the software package. So instead of being a 2 step process of capturing and then burning to DVD it can now be done directly in one fell swoop.
Of course the captured video can be saved to the PC's hard drive for later manipulation and transferring to other devices such as the Sony PSP or the Apple Ipod Video. The software that comes with the device will record directly to DVD (MPEG-2), SVCD, VCD (MPEG-1), MPEG-4, & DivX as well as the PSP and Ipod formats.
I highly recommend this device to anyone who wishes to transfer their old VHS tapes to DVD and to anyone who wants to create their own video for the PSP and Ipod.
