Cookie Monster varies his diet

Should Cookie Monster eat food besides cookies?

Cookie Monster is a cookie monster, which means he eats cookies. If you introduce other food into his diet, he's not the cookie monster anymore.

There were rumors that the Cookie Monster's name was being changed to 'Veggie Monster' but snopes has set the record straight that he will remain the Cookie Monster.

BUT, Cookie Monster doesn't eat just cookies anymore. Sesame Street wants to send positive health messages to kids and eating cookies isn't exactly healthy.

Now, a Cookie is a Sometime Food. So, is he the Sometime Cookie Monster? Why is it that we could handle the Cookie Monster eating cookies before but now we can't?

Should Cookie Monster eat food besides cookies?

It's your turn to give your opinion about Cookie Monster. What I'm trying to get at here is if the Cookie Monster is still the COOKIE MONSTER if he eats other foods and is in pictures with smiling fruit.

No, Cookie Monster is the cookie monster, so cookies are his food.

leeanna says:

Cookie Monster is not the reason there are overweight children. Let him eat cookies. Also if there are so many children who are overweight than why do we hear so much about children with eating disorders such as aneroxia or bulmia?

Alyssa says:

Unless kids start to grow thick blue fur all over their bodies, they shouldn't get the impression that it is okay to eat just cookies. One way to avoid this debate altogether, smash your televisions. The media is far worse than any mountain of cookies. In fact, if you didn't have a tv, your kid could eat as many cookies as it pleases and burn them off. But, since most parents rely on television to babysit their kids - expect far worse an outcome than obesity.

Michelle says:

It's complete over analysis if he starts eating things besides cookies. He's a fictitious character who was created to be lovable in a cookie-eating image, and should remain that way. If parents want their kids to eat healthier, then they should do it themselves. On second thought, maybe they should remove Oscar because he's too grouchy. It's a bad lesson to the kids. (sarcasm)

Steve says:

Over analysis. Super lame decision. Seriously.

Ryan says:

I say let him keep eating cookies, but cast him as a villain. Then, introduce the veggie monster as the hero, and they can fight and sich. Damn now I want a cookie.

Lori says:

NO!~~ I grew up watching Sesame Street and neither I nor my siblings attacked piles of cookies like ravenous beasts. My parents supervised our sugar intake and did not support a lifestyle of over eating. We are turning into a bunch of crazed PC Monsters.....

hunter says:

this is ridiculus! the cookie monster eats cookies. that's how he got his name. little kids are gonna be fat regardless. maybe what they should do is cancel the show, that way the little kids will go outside and play instead. do not blame it on the cookie monster, it's not his fault the kids are lazy. if he was advocating doing drugs or drinking, it would be different, but he's not. let him eat his cookies!!!

Lauren says:

Seriously, let cookie monster eat his cookies! He's a fun character on Sesame Street adn he isn't doing harm to anyone. Yes, parents want their kids to eat other things other than cookies, like veggies or fruits, but kids are kids and they don't necesarily like those things. What about Oscar? They should at least give him a home right? Because that would be discriminating against the homeless. No, it wouldn't. Oscar *likes* to live like that just as cookie monster *loves* cookies

freak says:

come on!

steve says:

no

rachel says:

ok, the name "Cookie Monster" He is a monster of the cookie variety, so its like LYING if he eats other stuff. :)

djvbjbv says:

it is fine deal with it punks

Rain says:

Listen. Cookie Monster is all about cookies, and trying to make him eat vegetables isn't going to change the "obesity problem" we have going on. Instead of watching that Sesame Street in front of the TV, why isn't your child exercising? I hardly think the TV itself is healthy, so why should *everything* on it be healthy, too?

Eventually, the little kids will realize what "cookie monster" really was and that he didn't always eat the healthy food. When that happens, what kind of message is it setting off? That you should give in to pressure to conform to the demands of the masses and become something that you are not?

For pity's sake, don't mess with the good things to "fix" problems we have.

Lindsinpink101 says:

No way!!!! That's pathetic! We all grew up with Cookie Monster! My 1 year old daughter watches the show daily and I know that it's staying Cookie Monster. I just don't believe they need to tell little kids that Cookies are a Sometimes food! That's what parents are for!

graydawn24 says:

he want be the same

graydawn24 says:

no foods let him stay cookie moster

Claire says:

Aee you kidding me? This is about teaching your children control. If we don't do it at 2 then it is our own fault when they want a BMW at 16! This is like when Bert & Ernie had to leave the show because they were two men living together. People get a life!

Babyproductsguru says:

Absolutely not! I don't want to live in a world where the cookie monster eats other food :-)

Monster too. says:

Someone should slap the adults who came up with this stupid idea. What's next? Oscar moves out of the trash can into section 8 housing? They give Kermit condoms so that Ms. Piggy doesn't get knocked up? The put Waldorf and Stadtler in a nursing home, and give Animal Ritalin to calm him down?

Someone needs to give the idiot adults who came up with this idea a major league time out.

Idiots.

audra says:

Well cookie monster is cookie monster.

And besides what kid wants too watch a cookie monster eat veggies...??

It's OK for the Cookie Monster to expand his diet.

zacharias says:

if he kept eating those fattening cookies, he would of surely died of heart attack even though i only like grover and elmo... and big bird sort of and snuffalu... i can't pronounce it...

suzanbafford says:

Yes, we need our nutrition through whole foods, but we do all love a cookie every now and then...

Treasures-By-Brenda says:

Expand away but the Cookie Monster is about Cookies. My children love cookies and they love 'good' food because they were exposed to both. They were given nutritious food for meals and snacks; cookies were a treat!

Brenda

LulzMobile says:

It's ruining a good character.
Kids don't not eat veggies cause Cookie Monster doesn't.
They don't eat veggies cause they suck. Let kids be kids.

crazedmama says:

I suppose if he eats MAINLY cookies all day and throws in a few veggies here and there it would be alright? I don't know if it will make kids want to eat vegetables though??

says:

I eat OREO cookies instead

mbrownauthor says:

He should be adventurous and try other items besides cookies. But then again, he is "Cookie Monster" so....

easyhomebusiness says:

Do "special" cookies count?

DreamEarner says:

Cookie Monster should eat nutritious food and be seen out playing and getting lots of exercise so that he will be a good role model and help prevent the childhood obesity epidemic we have in our country.

daliborkas says:

It does not mean that our favorite character needs to eat only cookies (all the time). He is called that name because he reeeeally likes cookies, so he should continue eating cookies. However, it would be nice to always emphasize that cookie monster is eating first a healthy food and then at the end of the meal he has his favorites (this way kids develop healthy habits: first nutritious food and then small bites of a favorite desert)

Tipi says:

Cookie Monster, has it hands-down! I did a test your fat weight recently, and my results were that, I'm starved! So, I have been eating cookies with my milk or coffee...yum.

A_Frugal_Nana says:

Put him on a diet! He's bound to become a diabetec if he continues!

szsoomro says:

Well, if Cookie Monster wants, he can include other things in his diet apart from cookies. In fact, I think he already does eat other things; he's called cookie monster because he likes cookies better than anything else and he just can't resist them. Kinda like me :S

shynab56 says:

What makes it difference? Cookie must have all the choice for food.

codfishlady says:

Yes. We all need to vary our diets. I know I need to do the same.

athetop says:

Cookie Monster should continue to eat cookies but maybe add 'healthier' cookies and well a other healthy fun foods to his diet. Cookies that are made with healthy sugar, nuts, fruits and such...

kab says:

Oh my, I see that others suggested a change of name. I could not take that!

What I liked most about Sesame Street was that they all had personalities and passions for things - characters on a lot of things today are missing the passion. Oscar was grouchy, Bert was nerdy, Telly was dumb, Ernie was silly, Big Bird was self conscious, and Cookie Monster was self indulgent. It taught kids that there are different kinds of people, flawed people, but you deal with what is there.

kab says:

As I recall, Cookies Monster used to eat lots of things other than cookies...like letters, plates, his pipe, and anything else he could get his hands on! Sure he can eat fruit, as long as he doesn't stop eating cookies.

moneygames says:

Cookies is not the best diet for me, and what abot you?

alienflower says:

Well, Cookie Monster can have some blueberries. But no bananas because bananas are yucky. Just kidding. Except for the bananas. Uh, moving on, now...

I guess he can try some new good-for-you foods as long as he never forgets his first love - cookies.
