Cookie Monster varies his diet

Should Cookie Monster eat food besides cookies?

Cookie Monster is a cookie monster, which means he eats cookies. If you introduce other food into his diet, he's not the cookie monster anymore.

There were rumors that the Cookie Monster's name was being changed to 'Veggie Monster' but snopes has set the record straight that he will remain the Cookie Monster.

BUT, Cookie Monster doesn't eat just cookies anymore. Sesame Street wants to send positive health messages to kids and eating cookies isn't exactly healthy.

Now, a Cookie is a Sometime Food. So, is he the Sometime Cookie Monster? Why is it that we could handle the Cookie Monster eating cookies before but now we can't?

It's your turn to give your opinion about Cookie Monster. What I'm trying to get at here is if the Cookie Monster is still the COOKIE MONSTER if he eats other foods and is in pictures with smiling fruit.

No, Cookie Monster is the cookie monster, so cookies are his food.

jenni says:

no way

The Muppet Lover says:

cookie monster should only eat cookies because he is called "cookie" monster.

Charlie Dean says:

NOOOOOOOO!

bob says:

no he should always eat cookies

AKdude says:

He's the cookie monster! Cookies are what he eats. Maybe more variety in kinds of cookies - but stick with cookies.

jaime says:

I say no he is the cookie monster which already implies "being a monster" that his habits are not acceptable as normal. He should only eat cookies, if you are so worried about your kids getting the the wrong example maybe you should look at how your setting example rather then letting them be influence by a silly blue puppet on a kids show.

Betsi_Goutal says:

No, no, a thousand times no. This whole positive-message-blah-blah-blah ticks me off. If your kids need Cookie Monster to eat veggies to understand that THEY have to eat veggies they have bigger problems... like not understanding they are not a Muppet. Give kids a little credit - they have big imaginations and learn through pretend play, but in general they do understand that they are big blue furry monsters whose only nutritional requirements are cookies - though of course they may wish it weren't true at times, don't we all?? :)

GiGi says:

i dont care what cookie monster eats i am still goin to eat cookies

Mary Gonzwaly says:

No!! That wouldn't make him COOKIE monster anymore!!

Rach says:

No,
Half the cookies go down his front anyway!!!

Jade says:

No he's called the cookie monster for a reason and besides a TV doesn't control what a child eats the parents do it's up to them not sesame street

Alex says:

When I was a kid, watching sesame street, the cookie monster was funny because he ate cookies like a maniac. It never inspired me to do the same, and Oscar certainly did not inspire me to live in a trash can or be covered in trash. Oscar was my absolute favorite monster and yet it's funny how kids don't model themselves after their favorite characters. I certainly didn't. Sure I enjoyed getting dirty once in a while, just like I love eating cookies once in a while, but my point is that either of these characters are just what they are; fictitious characters.

Luis says:

Noooeez! Cookie Monster should only eat cookies, otherwise he won't be the cookie monster. And besides, his body is so accustomed to cookies that, if he eats anything else, his body will reject the food and die!

rebekah says:

NO HE IS THE COOOKKIE MONSTER NOT HEALTHY MONSTER

J.Z. says:

the cookie monster never hurt anyone so we shoudnt really care, pluse it's the parents choice of how too feed their kids, not the Cookie Monster's descision to make.

yarg says:

the cookie monster should not eat other foods because he is the cookie monster not the veggie monster. veggies are boring. thats like putting oscar in the reciling bin. it sucks.

JR says:

No!! This is one of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. Cookies have been around for hundreds of years and the cause of obesity is not usually due to "cookie eating" it's usually, pop drinking, McDonald's eating, microwave lunch eating, etc. and the fact that schools don't make physical education a priority like math and literature, and kids spend way too much time on a computer. Besides, cookie monster is just a T.V. character and we should learn not to do everything we see on T.V.

Alice Smith says:

The cookie monster is supposed to symbolize the part of children that craves things. Just like Elmo is the part of children that likes to laugh and dance, and how Oscar the grouch embodies what kids are like when they are cranky. No child will think its ok to eat cookies all the time, just like they don't think its ok to be grouchy all the time. Children are not as stupid as people like to think. For once just go out on a limb and give cookie monster his cookies back.

Holli.dolly.x says:

the COOKIE monster is the COOKIE monster, children are not going to go into their cupboards and eat lots of cookie because the cookie monster did. otherwise we may aswell change the grouch too, he might inspire children to live in trash cans!

giselle says:

i think they shouldnt do that. He is not the cookie monster anymore because he doesnt only eat cookies! it is not right!

It's OK for the Cookie Monster to expand his diet.

Jonathan Lhota says:

Yes. Cookie Monster should go on a diet. I do not want Cookie Monster to be transformed into a "Monster Cookie" like the dream he had when met "The Monster Cookie". In the sketch, The Monster Cookie told Cookie Monster a sad story on how he became a cookie. The Monster Cookie was blue furry monster also. But his eating too much cookies made him transformed into a cookie. And regrets not eating healthier treats. When Cookie Monster wakes from dream, Cookie Monster sadly said "What a dream! Oh, Very sad!" And then he looks at a cookie and says "OH! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! NO! Never eat cookies again! NO! From now on, Me only want to eat carrots, Yeah!" So he eats carrots, fish, and whole-wheat bread! And then says to the cookie "And no cookies. Sorry, Cookie. Me not can't eat you ever... Say are you talking, Cookie? Are you crying, Cookie? And then he eats a cookie and says to the viewers "Well, Maybe sometime a cookie."

zacharias says:

if he kept eating those fattening cookies, he would of surely died of heart attack even though i only like grover and elmo... and big bird sort of and snuffalu... i can't pronounce it...

suzanbafford says:

Yes, we need our nutrition through whole foods, but we do all love a cookie every now and then...

Treasures-By-Brenda says:

Expand away but the Cookie Monster is about Cookies. My children love cookies and they love 'good' food because they were exposed to both. They were given nutritious food for meals and snacks; cookies were a treat!

Brenda

LulzMobile says:

It's ruining a good character.
Kids don't not eat veggies cause Cookie Monster doesn't.
They don't eat veggies cause they suck. Let kids be kids.

crazedmama says:

I suppose if he eats MAINLY cookies all day and throws in a few veggies here and there it would be alright? I don't know if it will make kids want to eat vegetables though??

says:

I eat OREO cookies instead

mbrownauthor says:

He should be adventurous and try other items besides cookies. But then again, he is "Cookie Monster" so....

easyhomebusiness says:

Do "special" cookies count?

DreamEarner says:

Cookie Monster should eat nutritious food and be seen out playing and getting lots of exercise so that he will be a good role model and help prevent the childhood obesity epidemic we have in our country.

daliborkas says:

It does not mean that our favorite character needs to eat only cookies (all the time). He is called that name because he reeeeally likes cookies, so he should continue eating cookies. However, it would be nice to always emphasize that cookie monster is eating first a healthy food and then at the end of the meal he has his favorites (this way kids develop healthy habits: first nutritious food and then small bites of a favorite desert)

Tipi says:

Cookie Monster, has it hands-down! I did a test your fat weight recently, and my results were that, I'm starved! So, I have been eating cookies with my milk or coffee...yum.

A_Frugal_Nana says:

Put him on a diet! He's bound to become a diabetec if he continues!

szsoomro says:

Well, if Cookie Monster wants, he can include other things in his diet apart from cookies. In fact, I think he already does eat other things; he's called cookie monster because he likes cookies better than anything else and he just can't resist them. Kinda like me :S

shynab56 says:

What makes it difference? Cookie must have all the choice for food.

codfishlady says:

Yes. We all need to vary our diets. I know I need to do the same.

athetop says:

Cookie Monster should continue to eat cookies but maybe add 'healthier' cookies and well a other healthy fun foods to his diet. Cookies that are made with healthy sugar, nuts, fruits and such...

kab says:

Oh my, I see that others suggested a change of name. I could not take that!

What I liked most about Sesame Street was that they all had personalities and passions for things - characters on a lot of things today are missing the passion. Oscar was grouchy, Bert was nerdy, Telly was dumb, Ernie was silly, Big Bird was self conscious, and Cookie Monster was self indulgent. It taught kids that there are different kinds of people, flawed people, but you deal with what is there.

kab says:

As I recall, Cookies Monster used to eat lots of things other than cookies...like letters, plates, his pipe, and anything else he could get his hands on! Sure he can eat fruit, as long as he doesn't stop eating cookies.

moneygames says:

Cookies is not the best diet for me, and what abot you?
