Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Nutritious Enough for Breakfast
love chocolate chip cookies. They're my very favorite. Our favorite recipe for chocolate chip cookies includes ingredients so healthy I allow my kids to eat them for breakfast (occasionally). Chocolate chip cookies made with this recipe have more nutrition than most breakfasts kids eat today.
What Makes This Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe Nutritious?
The Ingredients Are Healthy
Would you consider oatmeal or whole wheat toast part of a nutritious breakfast? Those are the two main ingredients in these cookies. But before we declare it an acceptable healthy breakfast, let's apply some common sense.
These cookies are made from whole wheat flour, rolled oats, eggs, butter, sugar, chocolate chips and a few other things. Not bad, but you have to pay attention to the proportions of the ingredients. This wouldn't be an acceptable breakfast every day, but occasionally, and with milk, I have no problem with it. I do know that it's a better breakfast than most cereals (even non sugar ones), most granola bars, and definitely better than things like pop tarts or doughnuts.

1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt

A Word About Whole Wheat
Not Sure Your Family Will Like Whole Wheat?
Will your family like cookies made with whole wheat flour? Ask yourself if they enjoy whole wheat bread for sandwiches or toast. If they do, they'll like these. If they don't, this might be a good way to introduce them to healthier choices. Whole wheat has a fuller, nuttier taste. Once my family had cookies this way, the white flour version tastes, well, white and not as flavorful. There's no going back for us!
No Cheating!
The most important thing to remember with this recipe:
Use REAL butter, REAL eggs, REAL chocolate chips.
You can use half wheat and half white flour to ease into using all wheat if you want to.
