Food: The Grand Obsession
Food. Really, is there anything better? Seriously, think about it. When you're having a bad day and your spouse makes you your favorite meal, doesn't it make everything seem better? When you go home and your mom makes her classic home cooking, don't you feel comforted? After a long day, isn't it nice to curl up with some popcorn and your favorite movie? How about going on a date at a really nice restaurant? Or fresh home-made bread?
Good food makes a difference. Always has; always will.
So why is it that more people don't make quality food? Well, most people don't know how. It's a skill that needs to be learned, even by the most talented chefs. And unless you have a mother with great recipes and a lot of free time on her hands, chances are that you won't learn how to cook without taking a few lessons.
That's where team building cooking classes come in handy. Not only can you learn to cook in private classes, but you can learn in team cooking classes with others who are just like you, working together to make wonderful dishes and having fun in the process.
Sound good? Well then this lens is for you.

Learning to Cook
Sure, home cooking is good and you want to learn how to cook, but you just don't have the time. Life today is hectic and there is simply too much to do as it is. If you are a working adult with kids and a home of your own, then you know exactly what I mean. You barely have enough time to think, let alone time to learn how to cook. Isn't it easier just to pick something up on your way home from work?Well, yes it is. However, if you want to keep yourself and your family healthy, home cooking really is the best option. So here are some tips for you.
1.Make it a whole family affair. Group cooking classes are a great option for a family event, especially if you've been wanting a night out. Not only can you learn to cook, but you can spend some quality time with your kids, which definitely makes the class worth it.
2.Cook while you work. Today, more and more corporate cooking classes are being offered to teach business teams cooperation and teamwork. Why not suggest a cooking class to your boss and see if the idea takes root?
3.Cut out something else. I know; easier said than done, right? But really analyze your schedule for a minute. Is there something that you can take out without it compromising your work performance, your family life, or your sanity? How about one tv show a week? Or maybe an hour of talking on the phone?
Cooking classes will help you in so many ways, from improving your family eating patterns to teaching you teamwork and scientific principles. Good food can improve your outlook on life, fill your stomach, keep you healthy, and even bring your family closer together. So don't give up on the idea of cooking well. Hold onto it and see what the world of cooking can do for you.
Cooking Tools and Resources
There are so many resources that you can use to cook well, most of which you can find easily either online or at a local store. Here is a brief list of resources for you to check out to improve your cooking and strengthen your skill.1.Good pots and pans. Without good equipment, even the best chefs fail. Pots and pans are the basis of so many recipes and must be considered the foundation of your cooking ability. I recommend stainless steel for its durability and easy clean-up. I also recommend copper bottoms for your pots and pans, since copper conducts heat much better than other metals and will give you an even cooking surface.
2.Quality knives. If you ever want to cut cleanly and well, you will need a quality knife set. But don't be fooled by commercials advertising amazing knives at discount prices. You get what you pay for. I recommend Cutco or Henckels (not the International brand) if you want long lasting knives that will cut well every time.
3.Cookbooks. The Culinary Institute of America has published some amazing cookbooks that teach, not just the recipes, but the science involved in cooking. These books allow you to learn how the recipe works so that you can make substitutions and invent your own recipes. They are the best cookbooks I have used thus far, and I recommend them without reservation.
4.Local culinary stores. Within a 10 miles radius of my home, there are two culinary stores that carry everything from spatulas to salsa. These stores contain myriad kitchen gadgets, the latest cookbooks, some food stuffs, and quality items (as well as a few miscellaneous pieces of junk). They are fun to walk through, and occasionally you can find great things. So find the local culinary stores near you and start shopping!
5.Cooking classes. Check with the local Y and maybe even the local community college to see if they offer cooking classes for you to take. While some information might be basic, sometimes advanced or specialty classes are offered like French Cuisine, Healthy Cooking, or Food Design. Classes are a great way to get started in the world of cooking or to improve an already advanced cooking career. So look into it and see what's out there.
Okay, I told you it was a short list. But these aren't the only cooking resources out there. The fact is that you have many options available to you in the cooking world, so start looking for them. Good quality cooking is well worth it. Believe me.

- My wife loves to cook. She doesn't have all of the fancy stuff, but her food processor and knife set would go with her everywhere if she could manage it. I'll have to look into some classes in the area for her.

- I like to bake, but I'm not a very good cook. Luckily for me, my wife is an amazing cook who hates to bake. We fit together well.
