Many people are reluctant to try tofu because it has no colour and it doesn't really have any taste.  What makes tofu so delicious is the flavours that you add to it.

What is Tofu

Tofu is made from soybean curd. In the grocery store you will find different types of tofu such as soft (good for soups) and firm which is best for scrambled tofu and burgers.
I have also seen a dessert tofu that has an almond flavour.
There is also cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, swiss) made from tofu. It comes in blocks, shredded and slices. I have tried the mozzarella and cheddar and it's pretty good in a sandwich.

Scrambled Tofu

Scrambled tofu is my favourite tofu recipe. It's quick and easy. This can be eaten as a lunch in a sandwich or at dinner on a plate with a salad.

Cut a slice of tofu (depends how many sandwiches you are making. A 1" slice will be enough for one sandwich. Crumble the tofu by hand, into a bowl. Add two squirts of honey mustard and two squirts of ketchup. Mix well.

Put a small amount of oil (I use sunflower oil) in pan and add mixture.

Stir with spatula so the mixture doesn't stick. Cook until the moisture is gone and the tofu is a golden brown colour. It usually takes about 10 minutes to cook.

Tofu Balls

Here's another recipe that I enjoy. These look just like meatballs and they taste delicious.

2" wide slice of firm tofu
1 spring onion chopped
1/2 carrot shredded
1 squirt of honey mustard
1 tbsp. tomato sauce
1 tbsp. of garlic or to taste
Bread crumbs
In a fry pan saute onion, carrot and garlic in oil until they are slightly brown.

In a bowl add tofu and crumble, then add onion, carrot, honey mustard, tomato sauce and breadcrumbs. Just add a small amount of breadcrumbs at first until you feel that the mixture will stick together.

Grease a cookie sheet with oil and preheat oven to 375F.
Roll mixture into balls and place on the cookie sheet, rolling in oil so that the entire ball is coated.

Bake in oven for 20 minutes or until brown. After 10 minutes turn each ball over.

Makes about 10 balls.

These are great with a spaghetti dinner. Another way I like to eat them is cold. I make them up ahead of time and refrigerate them. They become firmer and are tasty with a salad.

Honey Garlic Sauce

Lately I've been adding honey garlic sauce to my tofu balls instead of tomato sauce. This adds a nice flavour and the honey holds the tofu balls together better.

Another Idea

When the tofu balls are cooked, try simmering them in tomato soup, about half a can. This is very good over rice.

Tofu Burgers

These tofu burgers are tasty and easy to make.

1" slice of tofu (more if you like a thick burger)
1 squirt of honey mustard
1 squirt of bbq sauce or ketchup
onion grated (I usually just grate a small amount, but you can add as much as you like)
3 tbsp bread crumbs

Mix all ingredients well and shape into a flat patty. Put olive oil or sunflower oil in frypan and cook patty for 10 minutes or until brown. Flip the patty after 5 minutes.

Place in bun with pickles, lettuce, tomato. Tofu burgers are good with fries or salad on the side.

Enjoy!

I'd love to hear from you.

I love tofu!!! I'm looking forward to trying your recipes. One thing I've wanted to do for a LONG time is make my own tofu - I see you've got links to dried soybeans that's what reminded me I want to do that myself. Aloha Tofu Pie is super easy and the only tofu recipe my husband will eat - it's not super healthy, but gosh is it ever GOOD.

You use a graham cracker crust - either make your own or use store-bought, or you could also use a baked bottom crust like for a pudding pie.

Use one 12 oz container of tofu, silk or soft or medium, firm doesn't work as well, and a bag of your favorite semi-sweet morsels, and a tsp of vanilla and a pinch of salt. You blend the tofu so it's soft and creamy, melt the chips and mix everything together (you can add more vanilla if you like) and then pour it into the pie crust and let it chill for a couple of hours. I have been meaning to try this with butterscotch chips; I think that would taste yummy, too. Maybe even peanut butter chips.
