Not to Imply that Mom (aka me) Can't Build Legos

At my house, I didn't get enough Lego building experience as a kid so I have to work twice as hard to come up with cool yet simple Lego projects that impress the kids to keep up with Dad (not to mention my FIVE year old).

So that's why I started this website - to keep track of all the simple Lego projects that had a WOW factor and that I knew I could build without having to study up all night!

Awesome and East to Build Lego Car

Cool and Simple Lego Creation #1 - Just Add a Balloon and Off it Goes

This is a rather simple car to build (abnd if you click the link you'll be redirected to a page with detailed instructions on how to build it). It takes all standard Lego pieces too. And if you add a balloon you'll make the car race faster than the other cars the rest of the family builds!!

Simple Lego Game

Have Fun With the Kids with this Fun Lego Family Game #4

LEGO Creationary Game (3844)

Amazon Price: $19.99 (as of 05/30/2012)Buy Now

We love Creationary at our house. It's like Win, Loose or Draw or Pictionary or Charades - but you use Legos to build something, and have everyone guess instead of drawing or acting out. I have a hard time keeping up with all the kids, but it's a great game for me to work on my Lego free form skills. It's great for creativity, and communication. And when mom can't build she can be a great guesser!

Easy Lego Technic Rubberband Car

Simple Lego Build #5

Rubberband Car MotorHere's an example of how to add a rubber band to a technic car to give it some real get up and go.

Easy to Build Piano

I'm really starting to love www.brickshelf.com for some og their easier models. They also have a lot of complicated builds, so you'll only find me linking to easy ones like this piano.

Easy Lego Bird (duck or chicken)

I am so doing this next time we play Creationary!!

Lego Super Mario

Easy Lego Project #6

My kids love anything Mario, Luigi or Princess Daisy. So this video was great for me to learn a simple Mario lego buiild.

Simple Lego Spinning Top / UFO

Simple Lego Project #9

This is an overly simplistic build, and probably more fun for the younger kids than the older ones.

Lego Stores host FREE simple monthly builds

to make simple seasonal projects such as a heart for Valentine's day or a jack-o-lantern for Halloween. Great for everyone in the family or you can download the instructions below, to make your own at home to impress the kids!

Examples Lego Monthly Builds

They often require specialty pieces that you may not already have, though.

Why Legos are Important at a Young Age

Because Mom CAN Build Cool Lego Creations and Impress the Kids!

I'm a reasonably intelligent woman, and have always scored well in both language and math. However, as a child I never was very interested in Legos or building and wasn't encouraged to try. I'm determined that my girls will both be exposed to the engineering skills that Legos naturally teach.

I get to learn about engineering by playing Legos with my kids now! It's great, but like I said my four year old already has better Lego building skills than I do. Hopefully I can keep up with her by scouring the web to find the coolest (and easiest to build) Lego projects to make up for my Lego handicap! :)

I love this video. Speaker Christ Rogers from the Tufts Center for Engineering Education and Outreach has been working with the LEGO Group to bring engineering into every classroom as a way to teach creativity, teamwork, and systems engineering as well as math, science, and literacy

I realized as a mom that I had a huge Lego deficiency

when all I knew how to create free form on my own was a tree. I'd have more engineering skills had I played with Legos more in those critical childhood years.

Make A Lego Advent Calendar for Christmas or Halloween

Light Up Lego MiniFigs

Cool Lego Creation #15

Halloween LED MinifigsThis is more of a Lego modification project than just a simple Lego creation. However, it's highly creative and would make a really cool Halloween Lego project (whether you were making Lego Jack-o-lanterns or the headless horseman, like shown in the picture).

The balloon propelled car is brilliant! I have to try this with the kids I babysit. By the way, yes, if you do copy that pumpkin template, send me your pictures and I'll post them!

I lov ethe USB one - I may built that, with my one mod - adding http://www.squidoo.com/freeforming-a-diode-h-bridge so the motor direction doesnt matter. Either that or use a bidirectional gearbox, which may take up more space.
  • shauna7084 Aug 6, 2011 @ 9:24 pm | delete
you lost me at diode h bridge - but I'll bet my husband can follow you!! :) if you do send me a link and I'll link back on this lens!!! also, if you come across any other lego projects you think i might be able to handle please shoot them my way!! i'll share them here - not to mention i love impressing my kids :)

  • TheWhistler Jun 17, 2011 @ 1:19 pm | delete
Always loved playing with lego Of course in those days all they had were building block. No lego people, no special kits. I remember buying my nephew a Lego Castle.
  • squidooposters Jun 17, 2011 @ 1:15 pm | delete
The four lego bricks with the lego fence in the intro pic looks like something I can make without too much brain strain -:) Just kidding - my favorite is the Legos balloon car - much more fun than a fence -:)
