Math is the universal language

No matter what level of math your child has mastered, whether shapes and counting to 3 or advanced algebra, there is always room to improve your child's math skills. Without math, the world would not look anything like it does today. There would be no cars, no skyscrapers, no telephones or medicine.

If your child does not like doing math you may be stressed out by arguing about doing math homework or studying for a math test. There are ways to help your child LOVE math!

Usually, when a child refuses to do their homework it has something to do with a lack of solid understanding which hurts their confidence. They know it will be hard, they may be embarrassed to let you see how hard they struggle with it seeing that it is easy for their peers.

Try a few fun math games with them! If you find a few cool games just below their level of understanding, they can learn that it can be fun while reinforcing the basics that they will need for the types of problems that they struggle with! Once they are enjoying the fun, try a few harder problems. When the game is fun, there is less frustration and more motivation!

We all need to help our children do better at math to ensure a brighter future for our planet! Math will be essential in developing new technologies including green technology and finding cures for diseases.

These are a great way to encourage your child's love of math and build their confidence!

Most of the Free math games available online were developed by teachers to help children develop their math skills while having fun! They are a very effective tool to help kids understand the basics and in some cases the child is able to better see why a problem is solved the way it is when before they may have simply memorized the answers!

My Son uses Free online math games daily- I don't even ask him to anymore, he just enjoys them now and usually forgets that he is even learning!
When he was younger he really enjoyed PBS Kids and Clever island (which was not free but VERY effective)

Right now he is in a transitional phase, I can't be sure yet which is his new favorite site as he plays a game on one site then hops over to another, but the free sites listed below are the ones that he visits regularly!

We sometimes use candy as manipulatives to help with math. If my son gets the problem right, he keeps it ALL!

but do require a subscription and sometimes a monthly fee

If your child is below grade level, the free games are ok for extra practice but you may need to try something with a bit more emphasis on the entire curriculum. If you can not afford a tutoring service, these paid subscription sites may be a good way to go. Some offer placement testing as well!

Sites like ABCmouse.com may have more to offer than the free sites.

Jumpstart: Registration Required- Free to join and play though! This is a great way to determine which level of their "for purchase" software is right for your child. My son does use their CD's and really enjoys them

Their pricing is very low and they have a very professional site- free trial available!

When your child sees you doing and enjoying math, they are more likely to try and enjoy it as well! Set a good example while having fun and bonding!

Numerous times I have concluded that doing math problems (fun ones) has a very calming influence on our emotions. At any age math is a great way to exercise our brains. Thanks for all of these resources. I can always count on you (pun attempted). Fondly, Rose

I love math games and remember my eldest son used to do the Jump start games on CD - Math blaster I think. My youngest is not as into them but this year I'm going to give them a try.
